She is just ignorant and hates on sports, especially sports of the more physical variety. She looks down her nose at people who she considers to be uncultured rubes, from her elitist bubble with a sense of moral superiority that is insufferable. As does the rest of Hollywood and yet she wonders why people don't like Hollywood so much these days. Maybe it's because they think they are better than everyone else and won't stop virtue signaling to others in an attempt to make them believe it, but go ahead, keep creating a self fulfilling prophecy by continuing the very behavior pissing everyone off and while showing zero self awareness. That sure is mighty productive there Meryl, lulz.pineapplemike wrote:As an MMA fan I find her comments on the artistry of mixed martial arts incredibly hateful and personally offensive.

What is a "lifetime achievement award" for an actress? It means she's more raisan than grape and shouldn't expect much more in the way of accolades. Though I never watch them, I love these silly awards, and all these silly people patting each other on the back while secretly hoping the silly little hearts of those they now embrace shall soon stop beating.

To me, the Hollywood notion of "diversity" mostly brings to mind the "human zoos" of the late 19th/early 20th century. Sure, they depict and may sincerely consider themselves guardians of diversity, but the sort of diversity they present to the world is exclusive and superficial. They don't, or can't consider said minorities part of their own society. They consider themselves allies, or guardians of them. This just reinforces the splintering of society. They worry about diversity in the same way that an overzealous homeowner's association would worry about the color palette diversity of a neighbour's flower bed.
Personally, I find Milo to be a ridiculous circus clown. In Denmark no one would give a shit that he's gay because being gay isn't as politicized as it seems to be in the States, but in progressive US circles it seems natural that gay people and progressivism goes hand in hand. How much mention has there been of Milo's sexuality in US liberal or progressive media when discussing his views, though? If the narrative of LGBT persons in the media is of them only as victims and their only allies being progressives, it becomes taboo to present gay people as gun-toting, far-right, anti-immigration spokespeople. Same applies to other minorities.
But that is generally a cultural and media problem. The idea that if one is A, one must naturally support X, and if one is B one must naturally support Y. Somehow, though.... some people cannot even imagine that being black, gay, or member of a religious minority means having the excat same degree of individualism as the majority race, ethnicity and sexuality.

Clips of an interview with Rex Tillerson. The man even sounds just what like a Texan Oil Man Rex Tillerson ought to sound like. Btw if he gets the job, he gets a 180 million retirement package, but then again, Exxon is a big company.
Former secretary of State James Baker on the guy.
Now maybe Tillerson is a good pick. Let's just see if US interests are remarkably close to Exxon's interests.

And how many appointees to the Trump administration has it been in the Trump administration for Goldman Sachs? I've lost count. There are so many from Goldman Sachs.
Last pick is a lawyer for Goldman Sachs, Jay Clayton being as the head of the SEC. Top fox to watch the henhouse!
In Trumpland, Goldman Sachs rules supreme...

See Trump Nominee Jay Clayton Will Be the Most Conflicted SEC Chair EverMost of the consternation over Clayton's appointment has to do with his own background as a longtime defender of big banks. He's been involved in some infamously shadowy episodes in the post-crisis era, with two in particular standing out.
He represented Goldman Sachs when the firm received a $5 billion capital infusion from Warren Buffet during the September 2008 meltdown. He also represented Barclays during its malodorous acquisition of the assets of Lehman Brothers, an episode one lawyer described to me years ago as "the greatest bank robbery you never heard of." (There is a chapter about this story in my last book, The Divide.)
That Clayton has been a devoted legal slave to the usual Wall Street monsters over the years is obviously concerning, though not terribly unusual.

Way to go Meryl. Way to provide more proof of how out of touch and clueless Hollywood is.
She needs to listen to her own words:
"Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."
With your dismissive comment about football and MMA you just disrespected a large chunk of America. I guess by "the arts" she meant the snobby, turn your nose up at us peasant folk you spend so much time trying to imitate in your movies. The problem is, all she knows about "common folk" is what she reads in her scripts. She can hold up her "I was born and raised in public schools in NJ", but she is so far and so long removed from that is means nothing more than her saying she played one in a movie.
This will play well in her bubble of like-minded snobs, but she's not fooling anyone who lives in the real world and works a real job.
And boo-woo with all the playing a victim. "You and all of us in this room, really, belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now.". Why do think you're so vilified? Maybe think about why large segments of America doesn't trust or like Hollywood or the press. Then she threw foreigners in there. Um, miss, we don't have a problem with foreigners, it's the illegal ones like the ones you probably have watching your Hollywood kids, and building and cleaning your 20 million dollar Hollywood mansions. I'm sick and tired of Liberals acting like people want to keep every single immigrant out. It's a tried lie the media and Hollywood types like her keep trying to propagate.
"And they'll need us to safeguard the truth.". By safeguard I'm sure she means they must keep the truth hidden away, safe from the common masses.
