When was the last time that the Aussies, the Kiwis, or even the Mexicans were openly advocating for a nuclear strike on China, while ramping up their nuclear weapons program in the process?
Not what I said. If you can imagine what the U.S. government would likely do then maybe you could imagine what another sovereign super power would do. Doesn't really take much creativity.

Yeah, but see here, it's not equal, and it never was, China is not the Hegemon, so they don't get to do that, and that ain't nothing new, and if China don't like it, too bad.

This would be Might Makes Right, but since North Korea having hydrogen bombs is a fundmental breakdown of international rule of law, sometimes you gotta be Wyatt Earp about shit.

At least temporarily, as a reactionary response, perhaps not?

Definitely covered, but I don't happen to agree. Even a bad option is better than nuclear war, at this point.

I also notice that, after being asked a dozen times, by different posters, Smitty remains coy on WHY, in his estimation, China or Russia would launch a full spread over North Korea, if we retaliate against them, but they'll stay cool if we just B61 all over the place.
If I understood what Smitty was driving at, it's the effect, not the actual act of attacking (if that was the case, then Neptune Spear'ing Fatty McBowlcut would be just as inadvisable as a B61 strike, no?). Say we retaliate against NK and glass the entire country, that will most certainly have a direct effect on Russia and China. At which point, yes - expect to see incoming from those two.

If we B61 NK with a limited scope (their nuclear capabilities), with no effect to China or Russia, then what's the point of them getting involved? The strike was to NK and NK only. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not like there's some kind of Article 5 that NK could invoke for help should their nuclear capabilities get whacked. Now with the bit about China's point about considering it an act of war? Do we know for certain China is willing to back that talk?

It's not that they'll be cool with B61'ing someone, but is it something they're willing to go to full blown war over? We're not doing regime change. If they can't play nice with their toys, then they don't get to have them.
So, Russia and China destroy humanity because of some potential nuclear fallout? And, somehow that's not an issue when we're popping off little nukes all over the peninsula?

For that matter, if we were that concerned about fallout, then why would South Korea or Japan tolerate it? They're more downwind than China.

No, nobody is launching a suicide strike over some potential radiation contamination - that's the masturbatory MIC viewpoint, not a realistic one.
SJWs are a natural consequence of corporatism.

If China is prepared to challenge the Hegemon over this, then that means China is employing Pyongyang as a nuclear stalking horse, at which point, I'm even more prepared to nip that shit in the bud, right fuckin' now.

Of course they would freak out; everyone would freak out.

My response goes to the context of the situation that we're currently in. Because of everything that has transpired, we're at this point right now. I refuse to simplify it to assume that because someone gets nuked, nukes are automatically coming out in retaliation, no matter what.

Agreed. Time to take out the Fat Dumpling Un and the rest of the regime.
There is a time for good men to do bad things.

For fuck sake, 1984 is NOT an instruction manual!

Not about "automatically" or no matter what. Its about the possibility and the probability. Its about humans being inherently irrational and emotional. But being able to somewhat realistically predict behavior withing certain prescribed frameworks is what should govern strategy.

No, Russia and China could easily use that as justification to retaliate and further pummel the US after eating a nuclear uppercut from NK. If they want to be king shit on the playground, kick the bully when he's down and finish him off.

I'm pretty sure if NK is going balls out and letting nukes fly, Japan and South Korea's concerns aren't going to involve fallout from the US retaliation strike.

I don't see why they wouldn't if it means they are taking the pressure off of themselves in the political and other forms of world play.
