I remember when the first mall opened nearby. It was a 30 minute car ride away, but everyone thought it was really cool to shop completely indoors. This was around the time that our downtown began to decline, IIRC.

Damn, dude, how old are you? They roofed our mall about 1975 or so, when I was somewhere around 8. All I cared about was the Woolsworth, the movie theater, and the Sears toy department at the time, IIRC.

Myself, I don't recall much about the "decline of downtown" while I was still actually in my pre-teen years.

Rain on the scarecrow, blood on the plow, FTW.

The mall I’m talking about opened in 1977.

I used to make shirts when I was in high school.

One I made had, on the front, "Let love rule."

Lenny reference.

On the back it said, "Can you feel my love buzz?"

They kicked me out for it. Full stop, expelled.

I thought it was because buzz had drug conotations.

Direct quote from the principal, "Love has no place in school."

If you ain't informed, that old Nirvana song refrains, "can you feel my love buzz?"

No.

Self congratulatory praise.

To be yourself is all that you can do is self congratulatory praise.

Praising yourself is self worship.

You aren't God.

That's blasphemy.
