Andalusia, baby, the Sun Belt, without all the hayseed rubes, eh wot? The old city of Grenada overlooking the Alhambra, it's fuckin' paradise on earth, if you've got the tin.Montegriffo wrote:We don't need a wall we've got a big moat that goes all the way around.
Brit's who want to leave don't want to go to the US. They head of to Spain or France for an early retirement in the sun. If you're a bit posh you might get a Tuscan villa.
My bolt hole is in Aquittaine....

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
Dems seem totally blind to how fucked up they sound to the average American. Why should we bring people here from total shit holes, exactly? We are racist if we don't import millions of illiterate people who immediately become wards of the state?

A freind just bought a small chunk of Portugal. In the Duros valley where they produce the wine they turn into port.Smitty-48 wrote: Andalusia, baby, the Sun Belt, without all the hayseed rubes, eh wot? Two buildings, about 12 acres of mixed trees and hillside with no neighbours inside a mile away. All for about £30k.
I'll be trundling my truck down to him next winter to check it out.
Can stop off at my place on the way.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Thing is, he was just using the American vernacular, all Americans call everybody elses country a "shithole", he's just speaking the lingua franca.

It's just too bad about the Euro, it used to be so much cheaper. Imagine if you were converting from Pounds to Escudos.Montegriffo wrote:A freind just bought a small chunk of Portugal. The extremely fucked up thing is that, for those Norwegians to immigrate here, or for Americans to immigrate to Europe, the applicant has to demonstrate that he can get a job, has the means to take care of himself, and if he ever does require assistance in the near-term, they will send him back. There exists a standard applied to people like Monty, and absolutely no standard at all for people who come from these total shit holes like Haiti.
Talk about racism.

Racist! Racist! Racist! is back to the top news story, again.Smitty-48 wrote:Thing is, he was just using the American vernacular, all Americans call everybody elses country a "shithole", he's just speaking the lingua franca.
Trump pushes the media buttons and they dance, while somehow thinking Trump doesn't want them to dance, so the dance twice as hard, and fall on flat on their asses, in a fit of clumsiness.

Portugal is still pretty cheap. Really crap roads and infrastructure though.
Rather go to a French hospital than a Portugese one.
France is more expensive than here for most things but food and wine is still cheap enough.

Didn't the socialists ruin Portugal after the 1974 coup, though? I think it used to be pretty well-off, and then they overthrew the fascist dictatorship. Which, if you are one of the people likely to get dropped out of a helicopter, is a great development, but just saying. Overall.. those post-war fascist regimes ran a pretty tight ship. Plus, there's lots of career openings for helicopter pilots. But once the socialist parties take over, it just goes to seed pretty fast.
