Re: Economics: Minimum Wage, Who Gets Hurt?
Amazing.
There’s no way to measure the length of any given life, yet life insurance exists as an industry regardless. There’s no metric to measure the costs prevented by antivirus solutions stopping malware, yet somehow businesses find justifications to budget for them.
It’s almost like cost and risk mitigation are their own segments of running a successful business.

It sounds like the thing to do is to shut down 3 or 4 departments and get contractors to actually do some actual work, at half (or less) of the cost.
Hit the bricks, I guess.

Heh, this hits home. My local Moe's employs some of the surliest, slowest people I have ever seen.Speaker to Animals wrote:Stop trying to fuck with my dream of a fully automated Moe's Southwest Grill.

I actually drive by first, and if this one person is in there, I don't even bother going in.
Automate.

There's always that one motherfucking Moe's employee who doesn't gib the "WELCOME TO MOE'S!"Speaker to Animals wrote:Calculus Man wrote:Heh, this hits home. I just stare right through that bitch and tersely and directly order the Close Talker. Up close and personal.

The worst is my Jersey Mike's. I should really sneak a shot of these bozos to share it. There is one guy, looks like an ex-con, who is a hard worker. Great guy. I will feel bad for guys like that when we automate. The others. OMG. I'd be inclined to suggest they reduce the weed intake a bit, but I don't think anything can speed them up or reboot their brains to understand English commands.

The Jersey Mike's in my suburban white-bread neighborhood is a fucking joke. Shit service, shit food; plan to hang around all night. I'd just as soon go to the Mapco Mart, buy a 40, and sit out front with it until one of the local yokel cops gets a hard-on to stop talking to his boyfriend on the phone and "work" for a while to rustle my jimmies.Speaker to Animals wrote:The worst is my Jersey Mike's. There's a Jersey Mike's up in a sketchy neighborhood in South Nashville I still go to about once a month when the traffic home is not bad. The guy who runs the store is also the owner, and he is ALWAYS on site and working the line when I go. His employees are super nice, and the food is fresh, quick, and exactly as ordered and promised.

Standard IT contractors rate is $200/hr. I’ll probably end up doing that at some point.Fife wrote:It sounds like the thing to do is to shut down 3 or 4 departments and get contractors to actually do some actual work, at half (or less) of the cost.
