Nah, Patty and Jumbo, in a supporting role? That's OK, the mail has to be carried by Matty, and Marns, and Nyls, and Naz, but bring Patty and Jumbo in, short term, as a supporting cast? I got no problem with that, they would teach these kids a lot, which would pay off for years to come, long after they were assistant coaches back in San Jose.
Guy's like Patty and Jumbo, in a complimentaty role, for the superkids? That's how Team Canada works, Babs is just bringing Team Canada to the 6ix.

They were in a supporting role in SJ too when the made the Stanley Cup final for the first time, how'd that work out again? You don't have Brent Burns, just in case you didn't notice. Good fucking luck, you are going to need it, and Marleau and Thornton have none of it, so don't go looking to them in the playoffs when you need to get lucky.Smitty-48 wrote:Nah, Patty and Jumbo, in a supporting role? You'll learn just like SJ did, only you are stupid enough to think Babcock is go good he will turn them from chokes into winners, that's not going to happen. Just watch and when Marleau shits the bed in the playoffs remember who told you exactly what was going to happen, and was right, like clockwork. Enjoy a solid regular season, if you're lucky, the playoffs won't be so fun in Marleauland. Marleau and Thornton are chokes and always will be, only Team Canada is good enough to carry them across the finish line, they can't do it themselves in any meaningful role in the NHL playoffs, as they have proved time and time again, regardless of how much talent surrounds them.

The Shanaplan is not designed to make the Leafs a contender overnight, it's a process which will take years to implement, but right now, the superkids are really green, and they don't have any superdads around to show them the way, so at this juncture, in this development period, guy's like Patty Marleau, in a supporting role, is a good idea, Babs knows what he is doing, Matty, Marns and Willy, they're not ready to be the leaders yet, this is a window where bringing a Patty Marleau in, is a great development tool, not to mention that, on a line with Matthews and Nylander, he will get his cookies, he's gonna light it up with AM34 and WN29, it's gonna be fun for Patty too, already Mr. Consistent, playing with those two will make it a Marleau-aissance.
It's gonna be good, I'm stoked, time for a blue sapphire martini to celebrate, fetch the capers!

Try getting a superdad who isn't a perennial playoff choke next time, and for the love of god don't overpay them. Too late now though, you're stuck with Marleaucancer and apparently you want Thorntoncancer to top it all off, full on regression to the Old Toronto Maple Loafs.Smitty-48 wrote:The Shanaplan is not designed to make the Leafs a contender overnight, it's a process which will take years to implement, but right now, the superkids are really green, and they don't have any superdads around to show them the way, so at this juncture, in this development period, guy's like Patty Marleau, in a supporting role, is a good idea, Babs knows what he is doing, Matty, Marns and Willy, they're not ready to be the leaders yet, this is a window where bringing in a Patty Marleau in, is a great development tool, not to mention that, on a line with Matthews and Nylander, he will get his cookies, he's gonna light it up with AM34 and WN29, it's gonna be fun for Patty too, already Mr. Consistent, playing with those two will make it a Marleau-aissance.

Oh that's a done deal, I mean, Babs loves him, pretty sure Babs brought him in to be the C, that's the whole point.
Whether or not he actually wears a C on his sweater? That don't matter, the C on the sweater is Auston's, but you know, Auston is only 19, let Auston have fun for now, Patty can be the C for a couple years, while Auston just enjoys himself, because that's what it's all about, couple years from now, we can hand the baton off, it's a good plan, Babs, I'm with you all the way

You love him that much? You want that San Jose choke voodoo up on your squad that bad? You know you guys are sitting at -$2.4 million in cap space as we speak right?Smitty-48 wrote:Leafs sign Patick Marleau? OMFG! Patrick fuckin' Marleau! I love Patrick Marleau! Still got the Nathan Horton buffer for three more years too, so the bulk of the Patrick Marleau contract doesn't even come off our cap, it's free money, net cost of Patrick Marleau; $1.25 million, biiiiiiitch.

Hold up, hold up, what? The contract is $14.5 million in signing bonuses? The actual salary in year three is... $1.25 million?
So the contract can be traded to a budget team looking to get to the floor with a $6.25 million cap hit while only actually paying $1.25 million?
Mwahahahahahahahahaha! Yes.
So, to review; the Leafs get Patty Marleau for the next two years at a net cap hit of $1.25 million, at the end of the upcoming season the Leafs will have $37.5 million in projected cap space, and in the third year if the Leafs want to ditch the contract, budget teams will be lining up to take it, just so they can save money?
Shannyloucock, baby, this is how it's done.
"Yeah, Pat, we know, NoCal is pretty nice, but hey, we'd like to see you on Auston Matthews' wing for the next couple years, so how bout this; $14.5 million in RogersBell money... up front. Oh, yer coming over, eh? Well alright then, Babs will meet you at the airport... we'll send the G5 to get you... play-errrrrrr."
