True. The Democrats are probably secretly hoping for this high profile monstrosity doomed to be a complete failure.

But.....

Might technically be all of us, since the most powerful AI is going to be distributed in nature. We all will control a small piece of it (or at least those of us willing to donate CPU cycles and some hard drive space.

All fun and games, until the bill comes due.
It's not even about the bill, it's just optics, it undermines the position of the right, to embrace the very thing they claim to oppose, just muddies the water and gives the Democrats a free shot at them, and the Democrats will milk it for all its worth, even if they vote for it, that won't even matter, they voted for the Iraq War too, but they don't wear the Iraq War, they have it as a cudgel for all time.

It's not even that powerful of an AI, it's cheap, it's easy to do, Google is building an entire mini city wired for facial recognition, it's not even taxing their capabilities, it's off the shelf, the computer can crunch the facial algorithms with ease, it's very basic stuff for the network, it's not even the primary aspect of the network, it's just a sub utility in a vast ocean of code.

They already have the prototype, and there's no way the consumer will resist it, you walk right up to the building, and it basically does everything for you, it summons the elevator already set to take you to your floor, soon as you walk up the elevator, the door opens, when you get to your condo, it unlocks the door for you and everything in the apartment is already prepped for your arrival, and it started prepping as soon as it saw you get off the streetcar and start walking home.

We are being replaced, darlin', the the yGens and the IGens are flowing around us, we don't even matter, it will just become ubiqitous, it will track you right up to your door, and when you go inside it will track you by your appliances, you won't even be able to buy a refrigerator that isn't keeping an eye on you.

The reasons for their opposition to the wall are as varied as the communities that sit along the Rio Grande. Some are concerned about losing private land to make room for the structure. Others warned that building a continuous wall could cause massive flooding. Still others spoke against the potential impact on wildlife, and the state’s natural landscape.

And many border residents said they had serious doubts that such a wall would succeed in reducing illegal immigration or drug smuggling — the primary justifications often cited by supporters.

Most Texans along the border don’t want Trump’s wall, and many doubt it will be built
Walls don't work and people on the border don't want one, because I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.
El Paso residents highlight the positives of living with a border wall

Local business owner Dorine Brown was seriously considering moving her store away from the border area until a fence was built directly behind it in 2005. She recalls how undocumented immigrants would run inside her shop to hide from border patrol and entire families would break in and sleep in her warehouse overnight.

“We haven’t had a single person cross [since then]. Not one,” said Brown.

Allyn Echaniz, who also owns a business right on the border, said the fencing is “the best thing ever.” She understands that some people are against the wall, but she says she can attest to the security gains it brought to the town.

She said one night the alarms went off in her business because someone was trying to carve a hole into the back of her building. She also said over the year she has watched many people run across the Rio Grande and through her property, or on the highway in front of her business. She said it’s a lot safer now.

“I guess it’s not a friendly looking thing, but if you stop and think about it, don’t we all have a front door and a back door to our
homes?” said Echaniz.

They'll have to shoot me to take my not-listening-to-everything-I-say refrigerator from me. I'm a bit tin-foil-hatt-y when it comes to these listening devices.

The internet is tracking you right now, you don't seem to be able to resist as much you surmise, do you have your tinfoil hat on right now?

It's like the internet, it will simply be everywhere, you won't be able to get anything done without passing in front of the all seeing eye.

If the Republicans actually improve border security, it won't matter that "The Wall" was a minor part of the expense to do so, regardless of it's future utility. The only way to fuck it up is to spend way too much on the wall, all while not improving other aspects of border security. But if border security has improved or is perceived to have been improved, then "The Wall" isn't going to be a useful cudgel for the Democrats, it will just remind the electorate of the good job the Republicans did on border security, using the mental image of a wall to re-enforce it even further.

It could play out the other way too, but don't assume it's automatically going to hurt Republicans down the road, because it could easily play to their favor.
