I think it's probably harder to form emotional biases if your day is very much rooted in concrete realities than in comfortable abstractions. Well fed, well protected, leisurely people have time to learn about racism, and classism, and sexism, and all the abstract -isms that become the replacement for actual struggles in life.

Everyone naturally struggling in life is dealing with just making it to the next day. So they don't have time to indulge in fantasy oppression, or vague notions of peoples represented by ideas and cultures clashing over time, and who owes what to whom for bygone wrongs.

Nope.
Their mentality is a lot more grounded in the present, the near-term, their direct circle of influence.

So can they have cognitive bias?
Probably, if cognitive bias is just a catch phrase for "mental shortcuts" we all use to get from A to F without stopping at B,C,D,E along the way.

But will they self-isolate in groupthink media bubbles and self radicalize?
I dunno about that.
I doubt it.

That sounds more like something citizens of a modern state would have time to do.

We are talking about two very different things.

Recency and novelty biases aren't abstract, like the isms you mentioned. They seem deeply rooted in survival, like the bias for false positives. The fact that they are heuristic short cuts is precisely what makes them supremely difficult to overcome.

You don't need leisure time to be blinkered by these cognitive (not emotional) failures.

But the thing I'm talking about is more interesting, man.
Or maybe that's just my cognitive bias.

Guess where racism, classism, sexism, and mis-gendering rates on the average Somali's list of concerns.

Who are the real fools?

Terribly sorry. Carry on. I am sure there are plenty who will enjoy discussing how silly it is to worry about racism, et al.

I constantly crave the opportunity to interrogate my limitations.

Is there a topic you think I would benefit from discussing?

No. I don't think discussion is going to move you much, you seem fairly entrenched and confident.

Jeff Mangum, Kanye West, ODB . . . they could show you the hard edge of your limitations and point the way to the wild lands beyond. You play guitar. You have at least an inkling of what I'm talking about. The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls. Are you using your words, prophet? Seems like most of us are just reciting the words we've learned in a conventional order. Raekwon asked "Can it be that it was all so simple then?" - and our simplified minds resonate with his message. As if *now* we're tackling some new level of complexity in life. But we aren't. It has always been so simple, then and now, because of our lazy marriage to comfortable limitations.

Not even original limitations, but ones placed upon us like yokes by the same weary shoulders that bore them before.

So anyway .... Righties clearly dismiss racism because they're closet racists. There's the comfortable edge.
Lefties hate righties because they succeed under meritocracy while the left side of the bell curve can't. Now we've mapped the area of the box.
No surprises.

Game on.

I dont know from racist, who is or isn't these days; and I may not know ODB too well, but "I'm on a mission that niggas say is impossible, but when I swing my swords, they all choppable." Also, not for nothing, but I have long thought Kanye a genius... if not an entirely stable one... but what genius is.

It may not be entirely obvious in context, but I have modified many of my positions based on arguments I have had (or read others having) with you. Maybe it is tiresome, having to assault the same "comfortable limitations" time and time again, but it can't be all that bad, if you continue to do it with such vigor.

I speak for all boring, state loving, Normie-NPCs when I say: Thank you.

*high* *cheers*

How does that work exactly? All foreign nationals, or just Chinese?
We shouldn't do business with countries that practice slave labor and punish free speech for a start.
I believe that's called an embargo... Which is an act of war.

I'm not completely against it, just curious how you think an embargo against China would work out.
It doesn't have to be enforced by the state. It should just be commonly accepted as good business practice. The problem now is that a lot och publically traded companies have statutes that forces management to make decisions that they know is bad for the country (state) but increases short term profitability. It's really a kind of prisoners dilemma. If everyone stays out of china everybody profits.
