I am well aware of how business ethics works.MilSpecs wrote:It’s sad that younger people think it was always like this. Lack of ethics wasn’t as prevalent. You own a business. If you inherited it, ask your parents how business ethics have changed over time. It’s not a myth that a handshake was as good as a contract for many. Not all, but many, and public opinion buried liars.nmoore63 wrote:What marriage?MilSpecs wrote:I think what informed my views more than anything else was watching the divorce of business and ethics from the 70s into the 80s. I was much more libertarian before then.
Btw, the same thing existed for personal business ethics. We would have died of shame before declaring bankruptcy.
Both in practice and historical.

Back in 70s you could go to Jim's Drugs and get a carton of milk, a stick of butter, and a pack of tube socks. He'd always send you on your way with a pat on your head and a stick of licorice too. If you forgot your money he'd tell you that he knew you were good for it and to pay him back the next time and ask how your mother was doing. Not anymore. Now business owners are only about the bottom line which hurts employees, customers, and the community. Business owners are greedy now and are unethical.

Here's a big change in modern big business policy: You can return anything. It doesn't matter if its opened, used, and ruined. They just take it back and suck up the cost, just to keep you as a customer. Its as unethical as it gets.

I don't know how you can look back and not see what's happened.

Not going to happen.MilSpecs wrote:Scientists discovering the gene or genes that cause it would be helpful.DrYouth wrote: But what does a helpful confrontation with addiction look like?
An intervention?
REhab?
AA?

Morality school?.
No gene in sight for addiction.
Addiction is a strategy to manage goal incongruence and it's resultant stress response.
Avoidant strategies to avoid emotional pain result in a lack of successful approach strategies and the net result is a stress response that must be managed somehow... addiction is the somehow.
Some genes increase the likelihood of certain substance addictions over other mental health problems.... that does not imply a solution to the underlying problem by any stretch.
Looking for genetic solutions to societal problems is a good example of where liberalism takes us down a rabbit hole.
