It's going to have to be picks that they trade. Yeah the market is thin but Niemi as the backup option will not work. They might have to bring up Casey DeSmith from the Wilkes-Barre Pens. I think he's earned a shot.Smitty-48 wrote:There's not a whole lotta options out there, things are so tight in the league these days, backup goalie could be difference between making the playoffs or not, so if teams have a good one, they're loathe to give em' up, and the Pens don't have much to trade, who are you going to trade? Elite backup like Mike Condon or Montoya? That would cost, you probably wouldn't want to give up the player the Pens would have to give up.SilverEagle wrote:They need to trade for a legit NHL backup goalie. Antti Niemi fucking sucks!Smitty-48 wrote:Pens acquire Riley Sheahan? Pretty good fourth line option for the Pens actually, maybe he'll find his scoring touch with a change of scenery, maybe he won't, but that's a heavy load on the fourth line, with 6'3" 225 lbs Sheahan and 6'1" 225 lbs Reaves.
First significant trade of the season, let the festivities begin.

That's not how it works tho, nobody is going to give you an established roster player for a pick, you could get a prospect tendy for a pick, but you're not getting an Al Montoya or Mike Condon for a pick, if you want an upgrade, it would cost, Niemi is there because he was available, and he's cheap, and he has the pedigree of a cup winner.SilverEagle wrote:It's going to have to be picks that they trade.

There are rumours that the Pens are sniffing around the Habs btw, but it's not for Montoya, reportedly they are looking at Galchenyuk, I don't know what that would cost, the Pens are probably willing to move on from Olli Maatta, but Montreal wants scoring.

Hey, Pensfaggot, you got your wish; Pens place Niemi on waivers, Tristan Jarry recalled from Scranton.

Well there you have it. I thought they would've given DeSmith a shot. He's been playing better. Either way I'm happy.Smitty-48 wrote:Hey, Pensfaggot, you got your wish; Pens place Niemi on waivers, Tristan Jarry recalled from Scranton.

Fuck they can have Maatta. Maatta tends to make dumbass mistakes at the absolute wrong time. I would take Galchenyuk in a heart beat but our blue line is getting thin.Smitty-48 wrote:There are rumours that the Pens are sniffing around the Habs btw, but it's not for Montoya, reportedly they are looking at Galchenyuk, I don't know what that would cost, the Pens are probably willing to move on from Olli Maatta, but Montreal wants scoring.

DeSmith is not ready, if you throw a guy like that to the wolves, you're just gonna get rinsed and destroy his confidence, Jarry is next up in the depth chart, for good reason.SilverEagle wrote:Well there you have it. Maatta has upside, he's still young, unless you're talking superstar phenoms, D-men don't hit their stride until they're 26-27, I wouldn't throw Maatta away, but the Pens are in the window, so he's one of the Pens few moveable young assets, unless you want to move Gentzel or Sheary.SilverEagle wrote:Fuck they can have Maatta. You're not going to get Chucky straight up for Maatta, but Maatta could be part of a package deal. The Habs have Charlie Lindgren and Zach Fucale, so could be Chucky and a goalie for Maatta and another piece and a pick, Maatta would be a big upgrade on Jordie Benn, that's fo sho, Schlemko too.
Something like Maatta, Sprong, and a 1st, for Chucky and Al Montoya.
