The President doesn't have the ability to employ the military to do that, he could have ICE deport people, but not the military, he could have CBP arrest people at the border, but not the military, the law is clear, the federal government is prohibited from employing the military to conduct law enforcement on US soil.

It's like the steel tariffs Trump is imposing; the Chinese only account for 2% of the steel imported into the US now, mostly because of tariffs already imposed on them years ago, the big steel tariffs have already been imposed and already pushed the Chinese to pursue other markets for their steel.

Idk but we import a lot from valourec which is the current form of the post war German/French reconstruction agreement. Almost all of the cheaper stuff comes from south Korea, India and Taiwan. Which is fine by me because the more important imported steel is quality controlled to a level the Chinese are unwilling to reach. Good example of unions and government accidentally doing something right together for opposite reasons. Presumably.

No, the government here is just as in the pocket of the steelworkers union as the GOP is, they're not upset by the tariffs, they can actually dine out on that and if somebody complains they can blame Trump, so it works out nicely for them, the price of steel goes up in the US, Canadian steelmakers make the profits from that, and excess steel in the Canadian market drives the price way down here for Canadian consumers, you pay more for our steel, we pay less, your tariffs are a de facto tax on Americans, which subsidizes lower prices here, win-win.
