Oh for real? To what end? Besides the military tech the Clintons gave them that they would obviously be embargoed outright from. I guess we have had a long standing tariff against Chinese steel now that I think of it. I remember that was talked about when I worked at a steel mill. I wonder what else though. Maybe coal?Smitty-48 wrote:That's not true, the US has had a whole slew of special tariffs imposed on the Chinese for years now, imposed by congress.TheReal_ND wrote:

It's like the steel tariffs Trump is imposing; the Chinese only account for 2% of the steel imported into the US now, mostly because of tariffs already imposed on them years ago, the big steel tariffs have already been imposed and already pushed the Chinese to pursue other markets for their steel.

There's hundreds of products on the Chinese special tariff list, congress is throwing up tariffs on them all the time, particularly on steel, but the Chinese aren't even dumping much steel in the US anymore, biggest steel importer is Canada, we export almost ten times as much steel to the US as the Chinese do, but, the union which is pushing the GOP to throw up some more tariffs, is on both sides of the border, hence why Canada is exempt.TheReal_ND wrote:Oh for real? Problem being, they are exploiting NAFTA and your government's willingness to stab us in the back.
There are fucking enormous quantities of Chinese steel parked in Canada and Mexico to be dumped upon American markets with the intent of destroying our steel industry and weaken us with respect to a strategic resource. Canadians are fucking gleefully profiting off of this like fucking massive cunts.
Then Trump fucked them right in the ass with the tariff and they have all this fucking steel to move somewhere else. LMFAO

The fuck you say.
You have at least a million tons of Chinese steel parked on your territory, actively colluding to destroy an American industry for Chinese strategic interests.
Now your government is all upset that we have this tariff and you have to figure out what to do with a million tons of shitty steel. LMFAO
Pro tip to Euros: tariff that shit. Don't let them dump that on you. They had this coming.

Idk but we import a lot from valourec which is the current form of the post war German/French reconstruction agreement. Almost all of the cheaper stuff comes from south Korea, India and Taiwan. Which is fine by me because the more important imported steel is quality controlled to a level the Chinese are unwilling to reach. Good example of unions and government accidentally doing something right together for opposite reasons. Presumably.Smitty-48 wrote:There's hundreds of products on the Chinese special tariff list, congress is throwing up tariffs on them all the time, particularly on steel, but the Chinese aren't even dumping much steel in the US anymore, biggest steel importer is Canada, we export almost ten times as much steel to the US as the Chinese do, but, the union which is pushing the GOP to throw up some more tariffs, is on both sides of the border, hence why Canada is exempt.TheReal_ND wrote:Oh for real? Who is manufacturing all the steel in Canada? Bull Moose isn't Canadian. I know we get it I just can't remember who makes it.

No, the government here is just as in the pocket of the steelworkers union as the GOP is, they're not upset by the tariffs, they can actually dine out on that and if somebody complains they can blame Trump, so it works out nicely for them, the price of steel goes up in the US, Canadian steelmakers make the profits from that, and excess steel in the Canadian market drives the price way down here for Canadian consumers, you pay more for our steel, we pay less, your tariffs are a de facto tax on Americans, which subsidizes lower prices here, win-win.Speaker to Animals wrote:Smitty-48 wrote:Nobody is stabbing you in the back, you've just become a nation of lying, dissembling, fabricating, phony baloney double dealing infantile crybabies all of a sudden. /shrugSpeaker to Animals wrote:Problem being, they are exploiting NAFTA and your government's willingness to stab us in the back.
