Have you guys read the list of compromised applications? Completely unreal. To have this stuff confirmed is a bit paradigm changing. We (I) had suspected these things or just assumed, "they are listening" but damn to see it laid out like this, generates many different feels.

Quick edit, I am supposed to take my dad shopping this weekend for a new 37' Samsung TV. WTF? I don't want him putting a CIA telescreen in his study. No matter how benign.

I'd recommend not buying a "Smart TV" at all.

I'm still kind of baffled at how nobody saw this coming - I just kind of assumed that we were all aware of the constant Big Brother eye on us by now. Either way, I'm glad to see people waking up to it, and I hope this same conversation is happening across America today.

Are there any left that don't fit that description?

I voluntarily use an iPhone, but I'm mad about the Samsung thing. This is what I am saying, the dissonance is real. However I dismissed Alexa and Kinect as a "never purchase", but I have an iPhone in my pocket. Time to unplug everything.

What about car purchases now? I know there is a push to dissuade people from performing their own auto repairs, hmm I wonder why now.

The systemic corruption is going to prevent any reform.

In the acquisition of wealth, power, influence, fame, or whatever they desire, the elites of areas like the government, politics, business, intelligence, the law, education have subverted even the expectation of the rule of law, of following their actual responsibilities.

I also suspect there are now people inside the intelligence agencies who are actively preventing oversight, let alone reform, by using the power they now have to blackmail, frame, or maybe even kill.

I am not be deliberately hyperbolic. I am trying to be reasonable, but whenever I think I have some understanding of what is going on, I find out I am being naive.

IF you remove $$$ from the equation (the "corruption" part of your comment), I still don't see the power being relinquished.

The problem is our system. Elaborating more than that is super uncomfortable.

The system did function, more or less, until the financial corruption supercharged any faults, and it came to this. So while financial corruption is no only the only, or even the main, problem, it has to be dealt with also.

And it is uncomfortable to realize that we are closer to being Russia, or China, than we thought.

You really cannot win. Not even worth pretending that any elected official could roll this back. This is America, the land of the free, where dueling spy agencies develop overlapping spy tools using your hard-earned loot, so that they may blatantly violate the Constitution. Joy!
