I wouldn't conflating lifting with being good in a fight, I actually find most gym rats to be dandies, while at the same time there are legions of skinny mallet fisted slobs who are ferocious street fighters when the bell rings.

The item posted specifically said that right wingers are ostensibly tough guys because they are good with their fists, but in my experience that's not actually the case, in fact I find most right wingers to be pencil necked candy asses who would call the cops and/or their lawyers, at the same time, I've fought my way across the United Kingdom, and I'm pretty sure every guy who gave me a run for my money was a Labour lefty socialist.

As to NHL players, the gym rat super athletic NHL players of today, are total candy asses compared to the hard drinking take the whole summer off brawlers of yore. The Broad Street Bullies spent far more time in the bar than they ever did in the gym.

You don't learn to fight at the gym, you learn to fight by getting into fights.

It's kind of disengenuous to imply that, because gym rats would call the police rather than square up in front of the squat rack, they are soft. Honestly, nobody wants to get booted from the gym. That kind of ex-communication is death.

Plus part of the reason they wanted to fight me was because I was a right wing Canadian nutjob calling them out for being British Bolshie Commie Sympathizing Soviet Stooges.

Thinking about it, I can’t say I’ve ever been in an actual fight. Y’all are making me think I missed out, that I am in some way, untested. Like, can I take an honest to God hit to the face and not get knocked out? I’ve always wanted to try boxing (not the same as an actual fight, I know).

Closest I came to it was a group of drunk frat guys running into my wife as we walked on the street, and I scared the shut out of the guy that did it by puffing up, and his buddies pulled him away quickly. Dunno why really. It was winter, so I was dressed in heavier clothing, and maybe looked bigger than I was?

Being 6’3” has its advantages, I guess.

It's a young man's game, I'm too old now for street fights for anything short of extremis self defense, when I was in my twenties I recovered from injury in a matter of days if not hours, but any injuries I would sustain now, would likely be permanent, so I avoid that sort of thing unless I'm cornered and left no other option.

I wouldn’t say it occupies my mind other than when it comes up. One of life’s unanswered questions and all that.

I don’t know about MMA, seems a bit out of my league. The boxing thing was because I heard it’s a pretty good workout, in addition to seeing if I could take/throw a punch. I have been pretty good about a morning routine of stretches and body weight exercises. I’m in better shape than I have been in awhile (especially my back) and was wondering what I’d turn to if I got bored with that.

It does. Nobody really fucks with me because of it and I can't fight worth a damn. Got picked on in school and had to fight then, but that's school yard fights. Me and my little brother used to fist fight a lot, then he comes back from boot camp, we didn't fight much after that. I never liked fighting.
