I disagree. I was taking Tramadol for five years (not daily, though,) for an off-label use. When the government said I couldn't have it anymore (about five years ago,) my doctor put me on Wellbutrin instead.

I experienced no withdrawals whatsoever and it never stopped working for me. Wellbutrin is fine, but not as good as what I was getting from the Tramodol.
You substituted one from another... you didn't stop cold turkey.

Well, no. Even if that were true, and it's not, really, I didn't get on the Wellbutrin for at least a year after the Tramodol.

You do realize that those farmers are the salt of the earth right? Those poppy plants are not grown for opium, they are meant to be used for bagels and muffins. The amount of ignorance toward the Afghani way of life is staggering

I thought about making a thread about this a few months back, after I had a second close friend of mine die from a heroin overdose. We buried his younger brother last year.

Bit too difficult to write about with the distance one needs to provide some analytical objectivity, so I'll trying to formulate some worthwhile thoughts when I can.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, man.

We almost lost a family member to it a few years ago, but an arrest and an intervention brought him back from the edge. Very few are so fortunate.

So sad. I'm sorry for your loss. I dated a heroin addict back in the 80's. Brutal drug.

Thanks to you both.

The first time was a real tragedy, but the second time... I could barely find a way to speak to the family, most of them couldn't deal with it well enough to attend the wake or memorial. Their father was so strong, it was remarkable...

Someone told me from a public policy stance, cocaine is actually more problematic because while opium derived stuff makes you dependent, there is still a methadone option. I dont think that exists for cocaine. I might be wrong about this. Cocaine is more toxic to your organs as well.
The problem with uppers is that eventually they wear off and you either have to take more, or drink some booze so you can sleep for your shift that is in four hours lol
Methadone is not a fix, its a stopgap, and a terrible one at that.

I’m so sorry for your loss. When you’re ready, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the nature of addiction.

Sorry for your loss. :(

Back in the mid 90s when I was early 30s I met this guy, about 24, his kid brother got into heroin in his teens - he found his brother hanging in the attic over his parents garage. Sent him off the deep end, into drugs himself, he took his father's gun and put it in his mouth... Well, you could see the scar up the side of his nose, luckily he wasn't a good shot. He was in therapy and actually getting his life back on track.
