That wont fix anything, and will reward bad behavior....Moreover, the comptroller is correct - If IL doesn't pay its debt - who will ever lend them anything? What fund manager is going to risk lending pension monies to a bunch of incompetents?

You want to lash out at the Banks for what they've done in other situations....but it's not just the "Big Government Backed Investment Banks" that lent the clowns in IL money....

They should get out of the credit business. Don't do anything unless they can actually afford it. What a concept

You say that as if selecting a name on a ballot communicated anything other than that name. Or as though it were in any way clear what that name would actually do once in office.

Every election, we are sold a tv character, not a human being, and very rarely an actual policy stance. "I'll cut taxes and make jobs appear! I care about poor people! I believe in America!"
All nonsense and drivel, without substance.

Democracy is a sad illusion, that most people don't even fall for any more.
SJWs are a natural consequence of corporatism.

The votes are either too stupid to realize they're being sold a bag of shit - or they're too feckless to run for office themselves...Either way- they're incompetent.

Democracy takes intelligence - Most people are fucking idiots. Most intelligent people like democracy with a weak government because it equals liberty, which give them the freedom to operate and create wealth. Stupid people typically like one party rule / monarch with a strong government because it equals security, and they lack the intelligence to take advantage of the liberty that would otherwise come with a small government. Some intelligent people, realize that they can gain power by catering to the ignorant masses, which in turn fucks over the rest of the intelligent people who must carry the water for the ignorant masses....at some point - the intelligent people leave, or the system simply runs out of money, e.g., IL.

To be honest - I don't know if most humans possess the intelligence necessary for self governance - even if you put them in top schools....Has it always been this way? Or is Idiotracy becoming non-fiction?

Sounds like exactly how Trump got himself elected.

I'm of the opinion that Idiocracy was a prophetic message from the future. It's not the peoples' fault - we didn't have some sort of mass moral collapse because we're just dumb. It's a system of corruption and perverse incentives that created this.

As for humans not ruling themselves, I'm actually optimistic that some sort of rudimentary AI allocation of resources would be best. Zero corruption, zero self interest, just most good for all.

Sounds like exactly how Trump got himself elected. BINGO - the people couldn't produce a better candidate -so they were forced to choose between power hungry bitch or egomaniac sleazy used car salesman

Very simplistic view of what AI will be - are you a boomer who believes AI will be skynet? The singularity is a more appropriate view - man will be machine, machine will be man - if it happens, it won't be war between man and machine....it will be man evolving into a different form - machine isn't' even a way to differentiate, since the body is a machine

Oh, don't misunderstand - our monkey brains would never accept rational rule from a machine. We're far to self-important for that to happen.
I just believe that it would be the best system possible for global stability and human governance.

We'll probably incorporate machines into our bodies and perception, as we have for years now, but the day that we actually incorporate it into our consciousness will be the end of humanity. I hope that never happens, but it won't be in my lifetime. Meanwhile, I'm all for augmentation and such, depending on how it's doled out. Most likely, the rich get super-augs that allow them to stomp all over the proles in new ways, until we start the next uprising over it. Humans just never stop hoarding things for themselves, and selfishness will never have a limit.

Re: The safety net creating this, I disagree (and am a little disgusted by this attitude). I'd rather avoid another, tired, political debate over moral virtue. We do that in every thread.

Do you think this forum could agree on what rational rule looks like?
