Venezuela actually has more oil than Saudi Arabia, which is for it. Regardless of politics, it has relied on oil and allowed much of its economy to atrophy. The price of crashed a few years ago. Everyone else has developed their economy, so despite the corruption in some of those countries, they have an economy. Is both massively corrupt ( it was a corrupt oligarchy before Hugo Chavez) with no functional economy as the corrupt regime, along with its cronies, is more concerned with staying in power so they can continue looting than getting the economy back.

What I believe got Venezuela into trouble was that they didn't invest in anything, when they had money. So, instead of investing in other industries they instead double down on oil and when the price of oil drop, they got screwed big time.

They referred to Venezuela.
Duh.

That's an "it," not a "they."

The "they" of Venezuela has nothing to do with the "it" of Venezuela. Nothing.

The "it" of Venezuela is a lead-pipe-cinch for human suffering. That "it" has a 1.000 batting average on that account.
