The hiring of criminals in the NFL stops. The "2nd Chance Universities" like Louisville stop. The "one and done" schools like Kentucky stop.
What happens next?? Schools can't fill state funded stadiums and arenas??? Professional teams would almost have to sign some sort of armistice stating that felons can not be in the league.
TBH, the "win at all costs" communities at the local level is the origin of this mess. Those communities led the way in investing resources into athletic programs 100s of times beyond what is justified to the point where the highest paid public official in every state is a college athletic coach.
Voters in McKinney, Texas, have approved the funding for a $62.8 million high-school football stadium, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The drive to win is literally described as an "arms race" at the amateur level.
In the realm of college football, there is no arms race quite like the facilities arms race in the SEC.

This must win attitude has not just led to stupid financial investments, but facilitates a class of individuals who are treated with reverence and are often given "special consideration" because of their athletic and/or coaching ability.
Take the Louisville basketball scandal as an example. I can speak on this issue with a bit of authority. In college basketball an individual with minimal talent can make a lot of money. Not by playing b-ball or even coaching mind you; all that is required is you get a kid to come to your school. There is no quicker way to success. The Prostitution Scandal at UL is a perfect example of a over privileged individual (former UL PG Andree McGee) trying to use his position as an assistant coach to spring board himself into being a millionaire.
Pitino had nothing to do with that scandal and to the extent of the Adidas scandal, long time fans around here have a very hard time believing he was involved because it appeared unnecessary to say the least. Rick Pitino is literally the best college basketball coach ever. I digress...
Point is, we enabled this entitled "Athletic Class" because we felt their achievement on the field somehow added to our individual greatness. That feeling is rapidly depleting. As alumni of HSs and Universities take less pride in the performance of their former schools because they no longer can relate to the institutions and the individuals involved, this bubble will/has pop/ped.
