No, by Northern Irish I mean protestant, loyalist Irish which is British. I'm technically British with no recent Scottish ancestors that I'm aware of.
Being British means I'm a total mongrel and could have anything from central European Celtic to Viking or even Iceni blood if you go back far enough. I might be part Roman, Norman,Cornish and Pict for all I know. With 8000 years or more to go back to and even Neanderthal possibilities who knows what I really am.

The Northern Irish themselves are a mix of English and lowland Scots plus original Gaels and later Anglo-Normans.So 1/4 Northern Irish does not make me Scottish.
To be real Scot I'd need to be a Pict or a Gael as the Scottish from the original Kingdom of Scotland (or Alba) in the 9th century were ethnolinguist Celts from central Europe. Scotti is a latin word specifically aimed at Gaels but later Anglo Saxons and Cumbrian Britons (also Celtic speaking) plus Norsemen have also been include as Scots.

I'm 50% English if you take a more reasonable approach and only go back as far as my Grand Parents and I could not qualify to play rugby for Scotland only Ireland or England by RFU rules.

So still not Scottish however much you would like me to be.

Here is the thing about Northern Ireland. It's owned by/part of the UK, several hundred years ago James I sends a bunch of Scots and some English to settle there and to take land away from Native Irish (regardless of religion) and to make sure they establish a "foothold" in Ireland. For the most part that works, but unlike most of Ireland, which all past invaders went "Native" and adapted the culture, religion, and married into the Irish- this didn't happen this time. So, again, I will take this with more grains of salt.

As with the "mongrel" term, I know what it means but what you're implying that you are mix heritage makes you a mongrel (well by that definition my family is also like that and so are many other families here in the US) but it just sounds so hollow- to my ears.

Wrong again, being childless my bloodline ends with me so there will be no future generations to call me French. I'll die a proud Englishman and my ashes will be scattered by trebuchet in a field in Suffolk as per my wishes.

Well the United Kingdom's days are now numbered. When we leave the EU Scotland will break away and no longer be British as they are determined to stay in Europe and will have another referendum which will succeed next time. I will have even less right to call myself a Scot as they will no longer share my nationality. The Northern Irish also wish to stay in the EU so there could just be England and Wales left along with the Isle of Man,Gibraltar and the Channel Islands.

You know there once was a line in Star Trek about how Ireland voted to be reunited, and then it was banned by the UK government because of that line. With Brexit I think that by 2024 we may get an Irish unification voted in.

Ok I'll amend my rash statement to not knowing the difference between chips and a French fries.
That looks delicious but I'd have trouble naming it as it's not sautéed or parmentier potatoes due to the irregular cut neither cubed nor sliced. Fried potato hash possibly? Hash simply meaning chopped.

In NJ we call them home fries.
