I'll probably get a Dutch oven eventually. I'm just minimal as fuck right now. No reason for me to be fucking with cast iron. Fairly sure any pioneeer would have killed somebody for a stainless skillet that weighs half as much and literally lasts forever without maintaining.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
In my short life, I've replaced countless stainless steel pots. Not just individual ones, but entire sets. Year after year.
Meanwhile, I still have and use every single cast iron piece I've ever bought.
I bet you buy paper towels, too.

They don't last forever. Not even close.Nukedog wrote:I'll probably get a Dutch oven eventually. I'm just minimal as fuck right now. No reason for me to be fucking with cast iron. I have enameled cast iron too. The problem is there aren't any made in the states, and the enamel wears off. Mine are still usable, but they are worn away in places where the iron will soon be exposed and start to rust.
If every cast iron piece I have was covered in rust tomorrow, I could have them all recovered and good as new by Sunday. It's not hard at all.

Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
Good stainless steel cookware should last you your entire life and well into your grandchildren's lives, really. The only reason you should toss something like that is because you want newer cookware. My stainless steel cookware is about ten years old now (since I threw out the ex-wife's bullshit nonstick cookware), and they all look about the same as when I bought them.
I really don't even know how you can fuck it up, honestly. You can certainly make a mess in them by burning food, but that can be cleaned out pretty well.
What people have to throw out constantly is that shitty nonstick cookware that you shouldn't be using anyway.
I don't know where people get this idea that cookware doesn't last long so you need to buy shitty cast iron from Target. That's fucking crazy talk.

If American cast iron was shitty, I wouldn't own hundred year old cast iron cookware.
If cheap stainless steel cookware was ageless, I wouldn't have owned dozens of pieces that ended up in the landfill.

You can buy cheap bullshit from Walmart, but don't pretend that's what we are talking about just because ALL cast iron cookware is Walmart-cheap.
Cast iron can last forever too. The problem is that it sucks. Both good stainless steel and cast iron cookware last your entire life. Durability is not a winning factor either way but, rather, ease of use. A ten pound frying pan I can't wash in the dishwasher sucks long time. It could provide you with extra work and hassle your whole life.

I'll send you my rusted out cast iron for free just pay shipping. I couldn't be bothered to season it on my fucking Coleman stove and it's pretty fucking humid in Texas so it only took a fucking weekend to rust to shit. Have fun with it you fucking autist.

My wife buys cookware from Macy's at a higher rate than walmart. Still doesn't last. For the latest iteration, it can't be used twice without being washed because it will be be scarred. Not a problem for my cast iron.
Doesn't suck either. I use it every day and have no problems. That shit stainless steel that I've paid for over and over again, that shit sucks. Doesn't matter if it's walmart quality or bought from a catalog. Shit doesn't last.
I take care of my iron and have no regrets. No level of care for steel means I won't be buying more steel in six months.
I have cookware that never quits, never has to be replaced, and isn't a hassle because I'm not a basic bitch that can't rub some oil on a pan. You have fun buying a new set of cheap chinese pots every year.
