You can tax the money when it comes out of the business in the form of salaries, dividends, and preferred stock options..
Some of the loopholes there.. dividends are taxed at 15% for most people and only 20% for the wealthiest. There should be a single tax bracket for everybody that is uniform for capital gains, dividends, and income.
Preferred stock options should be taxed at the rate based on the total stock price when exercised. If you exercise options for 2000 shares and the stock price is $50, and your tax bracket rate is say 25%, then you should pay $30,000 dollars in taxes for those shares. Is that not fair?

Yes they should all be taxed the same, but with a progressive structure. We have massive inequality despite having a small progressive tax structure, much smaller than in the 50's age of prosperity. We need to keep or increase it in addition to treating investment income the same as salary.Speaker to Animals wrote: Some of the loopholes there.. dividends are taxed at 15% for most people and only 20% for the wealthiest. this is all horseshit. if you actually believed this, you'd see no difference in putting government dollars in military contracts versus welfare. this is economic relativism nonsense.brewster wrote:Everyone you would tax makes a living in some way. Whether you tax the business or the individual MAKES NO DIFFERENCE!!! If SS was paid 100% by the business rather than 50% they'd simply pay their employee less, ITS ZERO SUM!! It's only optics whether the business or employee is paying. I'm not even arguing that the business paying is better, since it MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. The way it COULD make a difference to tax the individual is if you funded it not by a payroll tax but by raising the progressive income tax so it's not regressive. While you're at it get rid of the SS cap.Speaker to Animals wrote:I don't have a problem with the idea of universal health care. I'd love to see someone explain how it doesn't matter...

or you could just come to Texas and make your argument in one of the businesses that left California.

Let's ask GE what they think with their tax exempt status.

Walmart is tax free as well, rolling in cash, pays their employees shit, and produces their goods overseas.TheReal_ND wrote:Let's ask GE what they think with their tax exempt status.

Source?

Again source?
Not only does Walmart carry USDM goods but they import cheap goods from overseas. I have yet to hear about a Walmart brand name made overseas but it could be out there I suppose. As for the actual people manning the counters the pay isn't great but the benefits are rather nice. It depends on where on the Walmart chain you are. If you are a warehouse order puller you are looking at twenty an hour and full benefits. That is absolutely nothing to scoff at. I don't even make that in the mill.

You guys are overthinking it. Take the SS example. The employee is going to get their SS & various taxes paid and get their after taxes salary, it will cost the company SS+taxes+take-home. The 50% SS they "pay" is part of his compensation. What difference does it make whether the employer pays 50%, 100% or nothing of the SS? The cost to the employer is exactly the same if they withhold 6.4% and pay the rest from his total benefit, or 12.4%, or feds be damned, pay the whole compensation via a 1099 and leave it up to him to pay the full SS & taxes. This latter is a "consultant" and very popular in some sectors. I've done that since I was 21.
