i havent watched any of better call saul, what are the odds it will be required viewing for the BB movie? BCS always felt like a cash grab so i never bothered. i'm sure it's good but i don't feel like suspending disbelief to make-believe all these old people are supposedly younger than they were in a show from 10 years ago
It won't be required viewing for the BB movie. It's worth suspending disbelief to make-believe all the old people are younger versions of themselves, many times over. I was worried it was just a cash grab too, it's not, Vince Gilligan is just a genius who can make a spinoff almost as good as one of the greatest tv shows of all-time.

Moral of the story, if you doubt Vince Gilligan, he'll probably make you feel stupid for doubting him.

Walt was the good guy.
Walt is the cancer.
Gotta have a Banquo if you wanna have a Macbeth.

Walt is the tragic, sad, bad guy.

Hank is the tragic, sad, good guy.

Only both are neither good nor bad. Both made decisions that lead to bad bad outcomes.

Walt can't be Walt without Hank's death. Hank surviving would destroy the entire story arc.

Exactly. Someone gets it. All your favorite characters surviving to the very end of the last episode is nowhere near as important as telling the best story, even if it means a good chunk of your favorites don't make it to the end.

Yep.

Walt is the anti-hero. The closest thing to a hero was Hank. That Hank was kind of a dumbass made Walt's rise inevitable, which means the final disaster would be epic.

“I tried, you know?” the director said when asked if he had seen Marvel’s movies. “But that’s not cinema.”

He continued: “Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”
~ Martin Scorsese
Well this is going to have a bunch of nerds panties in a bundle. Frankly I'm glad an icon from the industry has finally said something; I've had enough of them.

Castaway (2000)
Image
A modern robinson crusoe tale
Tom Hanks survives a plan crash in the Pacific, washes up on a deserted island, and goes about trying to learn how to live in the stone age.

It's a good film, dramatic, but not quite great.
