I don't know did a President ever stump on the fact that they were driving families into poverty while handing out 100 million dollar grants to "clean energy" folks on the coast??Kath wrote:So when the cars came out, did the president give a SOTU where he decried cars and promised to save the jobs of the buggy makers? Yeah, go after the Paris climate accord while propping up a handful of jobs in ''clean coal''.
Solar energy employed 374,000 people over the year 2015-2016, making up 43 per cent of the sector’s workforce, while the traditional fossil fuels combined employed 187,117, making up just 22 per cent of the workforce, according to the report.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The only thing 'driving families into poverty' in coal country, is that we've moved away from coal as an energy source. Those people need to move on as well, simple as that.kybkh wrote:I don't know did a President ever stump on the fact that they were driving families into poverty while handing out 100 million dollar grants to "clean energy" folks on the coast??Kath wrote:So when the cars came out, did the president give a SOTU where he decried cars and promised to save the jobs of the buggy makers? In most cases you can't... most companies refuse to deal with it because of the legalities and long-term issues it may cause around children, etc. Hell some states in the US have banned it entirely...GrumpyCatFace wrote:Asbestos might be 'significantly safer', but I'm not putting it in my houseThe Conservative wrote:Coal is processed and utilized in such a way that it is significantly cleaner than it was even 20 years ago.GrumpyCatFace wrote:BEAUTIFUL CLEAN COAL LMAO

Coal is a lot cleaner, and safer... hell you want electric cars... you use coal to charge them.

Well, for people who immigrated to this country from shitholes, these were the best jobs they could get and they were the only people willing to do the work. They were taken advantage of by their employers and used as near slave labor to power every major city in this nation for damn near 100 years.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:
Sort of a Love/Hate thing at best, coal mining.
So you have these communities see, that played by the rules. They worked hard and sacrificed for their country on the battlefield and in the coal mines and they were ardent Democrats, being Union and all. So as just as their industry hits extremely hard times the party they supported for decades brags about how many families in the Appalachia they put on food stamps. Turns their back on them because "white rural America is dying" and spreads open their arms for the newest cheap labor in town.

IMO, The biggest story here is Democrats.
It's clear they do not accept the result of the election and should be treated as a hostile party.

Many industries have died, Ky. It's a necessary result of progress. The buggy makers had to find new things to do; the textile workers had to find new things to do. Are you old enough to remember punch cards? We put those people out of jobs, too.
People have to evolve. We still need coal, yes, but let's not pretend that coal mining is beautiful and clean. Have you ever held a piece of coal in your hand? Was your hand clean and beautiful after holding it?
Coal is ugly. Mining coal is dirty work. Pretending it's not, just because it's better than it was, is disingenuous.

Let the market handle coal, no need to ban it, no need to prop it up with subsidies. If it dies, it dies, no need to have government strangle the industry prematurely.Kath wrote:So when the cars came out, did the president give a SOTU where he decried cars and promised to save the jobs of the buggy makers? Pretending coal is beautiful and clean is silly. Anyone who says coal is beautiful and clean looks like an idiot.

The opposition is always hostile. It's their job. Quit pretending the republicans stood and cheered during Obama's speeches. I saw far more democrats applauding than I expected, and even standing at times. Nancy had a few minions sitting around her - she was forbidding them from doing anything other than scowling. Other democrats had their own opinions.C-Mag wrote:IMO, The biggest story here is Democrats.

It was pretty normal. No hecklers.
