I don't blame W completely, 9-11 was a shock the nation hadn't seen in 60 years. If W get's real blame for Afghanistan it's for not gong whole hog and getting distracted in Iraq.
BHO deserves just as much blame, maybe more. He had a clean slate, he could have learned from the mistakes of W, but he didn't, he doubled down. He didn't commit to either winning or getting out of Afghanistan, he got us into Libya and Syria. He's an idiot. W can at least claim there were some unknowns.
Anybody can say "there were unknowns". He had 7 years to know some shit and stop it.
Agree that Obama should have ended it too, but Libya and Syria are nothing approaching the scale of Afghanistan or Iraq. Those are just IC games.
re-Hashing it won't get us anywhere. We need to decide to fully commit or leave.
You're right, it won't change anything. Idiocy on all fronts.
But we were never going to 'fully commit' to conquest. We need to just fucking leave.

Trump Finds Reason for the U.S. to Remain in Afghanistan: Minerals
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/25/worl ... osits.html
WASHINGTON — President Trump, searching for a reason to keep the United States in Afghanistan after 16 years of war, has latched on to a prospect that tantalized previous administrations: Afghanistan’s vast mineral wealth, which his advisers and Afghan officials have told him could be profitably extracted by Western companies.
Stephen A. Feinberg, a billionaire financier who is informally advising Mr. Trump on Afghanistan, is also looking into ways to exploit the country’s minerals, according to a person who has briefed him. Mr. Feinberg owns a large military contracting firm, DynCorp International, which could play a role in guarding mines — a major concern, given that some of Afghanistan’s richest deposits are in areas controlled by the Taliban.
Mr. Trump has said little publicly about Afghanistan since being elected. But his thinking about what the United States should reap for its military efforts was made clear in another context soon after his inauguration. Speaking to employees of the C.I.A., the president said the United States had erred in withdrawing troops from Iraq without holding on to its oil. “The old expression ‘To the victor belong the spoils,’” Mr. Trump declared.

I think McCain got that wrong, the man on the left is responsible... but what do I know... his voting record is like bad cheese... it stinks, and even when you get rid of the problem, the smell lingers way too long.

Because that is what it will take to win. So, American people you decide if it is worth it.
Ah, The Russian doctrine for winning in Afghanistan!
Put into a short paragraph.
Well, C-Mag, been there done that.
Not the point of that at all, but since you have such a good handle on it. Let's here your solution to Afghanistan.
My key points in this discussion are:
1. Trump rejected being fed the same strategy we've been using for 15 years
2. I am in favor of Trump taking costs and implications of either staying in Afghanistan or getting out to the American People. Don't tell me that is not correct, it's pretty traditional lately it was done with Libya, Syrian Red Line and Iraq. But this time, Hold the Yellow Cake and Qaddaffi's human rights violations.

That's where I am too. If I'm POTUS right now I'm telling Americans, hey, W and Barry left this mess, I'm not staying in there and spending blood and loot if were not going to win. And here's what that will take. I'll make the Russian occupation look like Occupy Wall Street.

What are Muslims like when they get
really pissed? Are they willing to strap explosives to themselves? Pilot planes into skyscrapers? What lengths will they go to when they're
really pissed?
