The difference is that in Christian America today hanging someone for merely being gay is a crime, and happens so seldom the last one I can think of is 25 years old. In Muslim controlled land being gay is a crime and punishable in varying degrees up to death as a standard practice.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Non-sequitor.C-Mag wrote:GrumpyCatFace wrote:

Another Lefty go to cliché. I remember the days of old when they said all the misogynist old men perverts were Conservatives............... of course that was before Weinstein.
"Hang all the gays" sounds like a fundamentalist to me. Not likely a mainstream Christian view, unless things have changed pretty radically in the last few days.

You equated Christians to Wahhabists. Wahhabism and Sharia Law is not restricted ton one country. Being gay anywhere in the Islamic world is literally risking your life. Being gay in the US or just about anywhere in Western Culture is pretty well accepted and there are laws about singling out people on sexual preferences.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Then, it's almost as if the nation in question matters more than the most-practiced-religion there...C-Mag wrote:The difference is that in Christian America today hanging someone for merely being gay is a crime, and happens so seldom the last one I can think of is 25 years old. Trump's $33 Billion Tax Cut You Didn't Know You Just Got

Senior Trump officials now estimate that the president's decision will save consumers some $33 billion. No, they won't get a big notice on their monthly bill saying: "You saved $X amount this month, thanks to repeal of the Clean Power Act." But the money will go into their pocket nonetheless, since they will avoid paying the much-higher costs that Obama had baked into the energy cake through his plan to cut CO2 emissions by 35% over the next 14 years.

I most certainly did not. I equated Mike Pence and his fellow 'born-again' maniacs to "Wahabbi"s - a virulent strain of fundamentalism, completely out of step with modern reality.C-Mag wrote:You equated Christians to Wahhabists. My overall point, though subtle, was that fundamentalism is not restricted to one religion.

Fundamentalism entered Christianity from contact with Islam. Similar to iconoclasm. You just still live in a time where that heresy yet has some life left to it, and in one of it's principal nations to boot. Yet would you say the same thing about iconoclasm?
Christianity is not really compatible with fundamentalism. A pretty large portion of the corpus of books that constitute our sacred scripture were never meant to be read literally. The same is true of every major religion I know about -- except Islam.

Valid thesis, I suppose, if you choose to ignore all of Hebrew history leading up to the establishment of Christianity. Those were some ruthless motherfuckers. No, fundamentalism has existed as long as organized religion, from the Carthaginians burning babies to Aztec blood sacrifice. Depending on the mood of the times, it’s either death, or a slap on the wrist for infraction.
30 “Hail Marys” for this generation could be ritual rape and slaughter for the next.

I don't think you understand what fundamentalism means.
Christian fundamentalism seems to be a necessary consequence of the Protestant heresy since it provides some basis for authority. The only way a concept like Sola Scriptura makes any practical sense is if interpreting scripture were like reading a newspaper article (little to no disagreement about what it means). So you have to reduce the books in the Bible to just literal truth even if they were NEVER interpreted as such before the 19th century.
The idea of it had to have come from knowledge of Islam which is THE fundamentalist religion. Islamic scripture is just a set of religious, social, legal, and political instructions to be taken literally. I don't know of any other religion quite like that.
The thing is, even Islam requires authority. That's what clerics do. Fundamentalist churches on the side of the highway have some guy reading the Bible and telling you what's what too. The foundation of the entire heresy doesn't really work out. That's why the number of Protestant denominations truly is equal to the number of Protestants.

It's obviously because he's gay, and doesn't want to get caught off guard.StCapps wrote:It's an uncorroborated joke, why are you reading so much into this? I'm just pointing out that there's literally no distinction between a fundamentalist Christian, Muslim, Jew, or Hindu. All batshit-crazy, kill you for wrongthink maniacs.
