January 27th is the date I joined the DCF last year so that means I've been hanging out with you misfits for exactly a year now.
I have to say it's been fulfilling, frustrating and educational in equal measures.
My knowledge of American politics has grown exponentially and I've learned a few things about history too.
I still find it hard to grasp where some of you are coming from sometimes but with only a few exceptions I have found you open to discussion on almost all subjects.
I still haven't listened to a whole Dan Carlin podcast yet but I have a load of them on my hard drive so there is still hope, maybe next time I have a long solo car trip I'll try again.
A few of you have become real friends and possibly as many have become ideological enemies.

Overall it has been a positive and worthwhile experience so........... THANKS GUYS

ps I think it's about time some of you had a go at building yourselves a trebuchet, plans for increasing the size and strength of my last one next May are in full swing with a longer beam and a taller frame so I am hoping to get a projectile 150 paces next time.

It's not so much that I hate to be called Monty it's just that in my mind those who bother to spell it correctly are my friends and those who deliberately misspell it are my enemies. With the exception of Dr Youth who is still getting it wrong every time.
It's not like I haven't pointed it out dozens of times, hell on my first day on the DCF I said I would call Smitty "Shitty" if it was OK to change one letter in someone's name.
I'm pretty sure you are not one of my ideological enemies which is why I bothered to explain it to you in the first place.

My Burns night menu went down well last night and professional curiosity got the better of me and over ruled my vegetarianism so I tried a bit of the Haggis I served. Surprised me as it tasted pretty good considering what it's made from. Like a black pudding with lots of black pepper. Also made a Cullen Skink which I'm sure you know is a thick, creamy, smoked haddock, leek and potato broth which was bloody lovely.
We had a Jock in full skirt reading Burns' address in a thick Scottish accent which he pulled off very well considering he was born and bred in North London.

The funny bit is where Burns slags off the cuisine of the French and Italians, a bit rich coming from the home of the deep fried Mars bar.
