Rick and Morty is a good show, the fans are apparently insufferable.

Give it a shot.

+1 I loved the first season. Dan Harmon is a dumbfuck SJW though and the third season isn't as good. I watched the show from the very first episode and the people I watched it with were all normal people who watched the show and laughed. It seemed like another goofy and extra silly Adult Swim show. Now it's become this crazy thing on reddit with autistic fans and it's a real shame :(

Dan Harmon sucks.

I interpreted the show as depicting the dangers of nihilism through Rick's emptiness, but apparently Harmon has stated that my interpretation is 180 degrees off, it is to show you that nothing matters and life is an accident, which is freeing.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them.

Sounds like pretentious bullshit from the kinds of people who failed calculus, had to change to a liberal arts major, and cannot actually build, repair, or explain anything important.

That was exactly my experience too. I'll take Superjail, Xavier Renegade Angel, etc's absurdism and humor over sincere nihilism anyday.

That's the difference between Rick and Morty and Futurama, as far as "sci fi comedy cartoons" go.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
