He was pretty woke actually, by Roman standards Augustus was hella "progressive" in the American paradigm. Augustus simply rejected res publica as being a viable path to progress.

But that's how the Plebs were, that's what the Plebs wanted, the Plebs never had it so good as they had it under Augustus, it was the Patricians who were the radicals, the Patricians were the ones who feared and loathed Augustus, because Augustus was restricting their power on behalf of the masses, albeit, without res publica, as bear in mind, when the Romans said "public rule", they didn't mean the rule of the Plebs, res publica was the rule of the Senate.

Well, that's pretty much the problem for these Alt Righties, in order to get what they want, that would require a Princeps et Imperator, at which point, this republic would have to go, but doesn't actually seem to going in that direction, seems to be ever more under the influence of a Senate all the time, and moreover, finding an Augustus would be a neat trick, because those guys don't come around very often.

See this is why I see Trump as being a Gracchi, because he's trying to take the Patricians and their Senate on, head to head, in the open, but we all know how that turned out, which is why Augustus never did that, Augustus went about it in a far more machiavellian way, to say the least.
