Trump is definitely NOT supernatural, he’s preternatural.

Don’t you understand faith?!
Agnostic. Faith is what you do when you have no proof. Hint: Mary wasn't a virgin, either.

Well, if we’re going to start pick-n-chosing, historically, there was no Mary, and no Jesus either. The Roman historian Josephesus never mentions him, but there is a historical “Jesus” that DID gather the Jews to rebel against Rome, that does have historical precedent.

Can we get back to the ridiculous notion that a village is collectivist and an anathema to the real individualists?
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND

I want to point out that this forum causes sparks so that fires start everywhere. For example, in just the past couple of days, I've developed my thinking on enemies of liberty coming from both The Left & The Right. The idea that collectivism is a society's natural inclination because the losers band together. The hostility towards personal liberty from the theists. The probable future of liberty, and the reason it was able to start in the first place. All of these things have come up before but some pieces just now got put together because of 2 or 3 crazy threads.

As for the OP: governments ARE collectivist, at least Western governments anyway, because they are SUPPOSED to be doing what is best for everyone. Society does not have to be collectivist but almost all are, except here in America, but give it time, that's the direction we're going.

Unless you live off the grid you depend on your village all day, every day. It's not an anathema to freedom. My helping my neighbor fix his fence does nothing to harm my individuality. The store owner who exchanges his goods for my money doesn't harm it, either. If my 15 year old niece babysits my kid, is my individuality threatened?

No, of course not.

Freedom isn't the same thing as liberty; you can have freedom in a socialist village just not liberty (personal autonomy).

Sorry to be a PITA about definitions, but I think you should state your definition of "collectivist", and where a society tips into it. Seems to me any society at all has it's free riders and asymmetrical transactions.

Google "collectivist:" relating to the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it.

Direct opposite of liberty.
