Re: LET'S BAN GUNS!
Didn't say the 2nd Amendment was about hunting, Smitty.
You're taking a quoted paraphrase and launching into a big, unnecessary spiel about it.
We're all familiar with the "well-regulated militia" clause.
My point was the idiocy in a user writing a post about how they know criminals will murder anyway, but admitting they're finally on board with disarming the elderly, disabled, oppressed, and sportsmen, because Steven Colbert said more words.

I was actually talking to that Partyof5 guy, when he said "I'm done siding with Americans who want non-hunting non-self defense weapons", which, clearly not all of you are familiar with the term Militia after all.
"Just for hunting and self defense in extremis", that's actually a thing, it's called Canada.
I can go buy an AR15, I could go hunting in hunting season, and if you try to kill me, I could legally shoot you in self defense, you don't need a 2nd Amendment just to do that, the Queen will let me do that too.

People with the mentality of peasants can't really self-govern.

Liberty is simply freedom granted by an external authority, in terms of hunting and self defense, you have an inherent right to self defense, you can use your hunting rifles if you need to, but you don't actually have a right to hunt, you actually need to buy a licence, so how hunting became part of the 2nd Amendment is not clear to me.

You know, if American do-gooders really want to abridge our rights to "save lives", then it's time to zero in on the fatties. All these fat fucking American internet shut-ins who are always agitating to fix the world by fucking everyone else over, I say "It's your turn".
Look at what's killing Americans.
Holy shit . . . guns aren't even on there. I mean, they may be a subset of suicide, but even then, only a subset.
Let's start saving some lives, eh folks? I call for a complete ban on fast food, candy, and soda, for all Americans who are overweight. Healthy BMI will provide an acceptable exclusion to this law, but if you're overweight and it's not due to muscle, then ol' DBTrek is here to save you from yourselves, and all it takes is a little "rational abridgement" of your rights.
Let's not be hypocrites folks. If we're going to save everyone through government restrictions on personal freedoms then it's time to tackle the 500 pound gorilla. Clearly Americans are not responsible enough to handle so much freedom. Surely our Founders never envisioned the Happy Meal when they wrote that "pursuit of happiness" bit in the Declaration of Independence. It's up to us to save eachother, and government is the tool of our salvation, right?

Negative. Freedom is won in battle. It is secured through blood sacrifice in war against tyrants. The American people secured freedom for themselves.

Since it's a militia, you could probably pass the no fatties law and be far more constitutional than the no guns law, "well regulated" could include a fitness test, even if you can't disarm it.DBTrek wrote:Ah, ok. You could do it like infantry school; you may not take delivery of your gun, until you do fifteen chin-ups on this bar over the door, oh, you want fully automatic and a drum magazine? Well, that's the elite weapons platoon, for that you'll have to crank off twenty.

No one needs an automatic large magazine rifle....but cars kill more people.
Let's see if we can do anything to stop all these gun deaths..... but fat people die in larger numbers.
There's your rational debate.
Accidental vehicle deaths and people damaging their own health by over eating is just the same as a gunman murdering 60 innocent people with a military weapon.
To quote our dear DB

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Are we passing laws to save lives or aren't we?Montegriffo wrote:Accidental vehicle deaths and people damaging their own health by over eating is just the same as a gunman murdering 60 innocent people with a military weapon.
If we are, then why would you shrug off the #1 killer of Americans so casually?
I mean . .. this is all about saving lives, right?
Right?
