Trump campaigned on obliterating ISIS. That doesn't sound like the US getting out of the Middle East to me. Not sure how other folk got another impression, that's next level wishful thinking on their parts.

The Chinese are not well positioned to fight World War Three, they are severely outgunned, they might fight a theater war with a lesser opponent, but if they take it to the brink against the USA, it's a Kobayashi Maru, I don't see them commiting national seppuku for the DPRK.

When it comes to WWIII, it's still really only the Russians who have the nuclear horses to stare America down.

The Chinese deterrent is puny, it's vulnerable to a US counterforce, the US could take them down with a first strike, game over, so they would have to limit it to a conventional war, air-sea battle, which the Americans would win, whereas the Russians, they don't bother with the conventional war, they are all about the nukes, so they'll just take it straight to the brink and call America's bluff.

Russia and China are not actually allies, they are in fact enemies, so don't get into the whole "Communist Bloc" way of thinking, the Russians and Chinese can and should be played off each other, this was in fact what Nixon did, once the "Domino Theory" was proven wrong in Vietnam, to wit, Reagan didn't win the Cold War, Nixon did, there is no Sino-Russo solidarity, the most likely scenario for WWIII is actually Russia v. China.
