The lack of wisdom in this pope is astonishing, yet no one seems to care. How come wisdom no longer has cachet? Does everyone think they are wise? Where do they get that impression? What in people's lives convinces them they have wisdom?

He's. A. Pope... last time they had to deal with reality in world politics, was when they owned a significantly larger part of Italy. Today, otoh, defense of Vatican territory is up to the Italians...
Other than that, the Reformation blessed the world with the knowledge that the words of popes, are as significant as the words of mental patients. Even catholic world leaders pay him no mind, so really, crafting a book about his inane statement seems like a wasteful effort.

Don't get why anyone would listen to any pope after they started driving around in their bullet proof cars, and having armed guards.
If I had a fast ticket to heaven, and were God's voice on earth, I'd be pretty confident walking around without any other protection than whatever God would provide for me. Hell, I walk around unarmed, without armor, and I don't even believe in God, so he won't really protect me now anyway.

I generally agree. There are also a ton of so called smart people that are not wise. Many people lack prudence which is a precursor to wisdom as well.Martin Hash wrote:The lack of wisdom in this pope is astonishing, yet no one seems to care. How come wisdom no longer has cachet? The ability to Google sources that validate pre-existing confirmation biases has convinced the masses that they were intuitively right about everything all along. Ergo everyone feels they are naturally gifted with wisdom, and they will send you the links as proof should you disagree.

Good insight. Self-substantiated wisdom does seem to track Internet usage.DBTrek wrote:The ability to Google sources that validate pre-existing confirmation biases has convinced the masses that they were intuitively right about everything all along. I am pretty good at figure things out, etc. Clever, I guess. Wise.. no. All the wisdom I ever get comes from God. I know that stuff doesn't come from me.
Wisdom can be punishing too. That moment of clarity is not comfortable for most of us. At least, I doubt it would be for most of you.

After thinking about it, the decline in respect for educated people started about the same time too. I bet this explains why everyone thinks their opinion is just as valid as anyone else's.DBTrek wrote:The ability to Google sources that validate pre-existing confirmation biases has convinced the masses that they were intuitively right about everything all along.
