This is taking the "toys are not gender specific" to a creepy level. I agree that a boy or girl should not be chided for playing with a toy that is perceived as being the wrong gender, but dammit, there should be places for girls to be girls and boys to be boys.

Fuck this.
It's the death knell for girl scouts. My grandmother, my mother, and I were all girl scout leaders, so I'm sad. I went to camp too. It's the girl scout organization's own fault though. They made it very hard to join or start a troop and they did nothing to update the offerings. It was a big deal to be an eagle scout but the gold award didn't have anywhere near the prestige. The goal every year was to make money for management selling cookies. A lot of moms were asking themselves why their daughters were in a second class organization. Girls went into sports instead, and I can't blame them. My girls were so bored they didn't want to join again after the first year.

+1

My twins started cub scouts in first grade and they have two more years until they cross over to....well use to be Boy Scouts. They want to become an Eagle Scout like me but now...................... I'm sure the program will be watered down even further from when I became an Eagle so whats the point? Everyone gets a trophy!!!!
There is a time for good men to do bad things.

For fuck sake, 1984 is NOT an instruction manual!

We don't have eagle scouts on the UK. The Scout Association (SA) concentrates on awards instead of ranks in a move away from militarisation of the movement.
They used to be known as proficiency awards but now they call them activity awards.
Baden Powell's original Boy Scouts Association was all about preparing boys for a life in the British army.

I was in the cubs but never bothered with the scouts, too busy with all my sports.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The un-pozzed kids where I live associate with the groups affiliated with the four military branches. Boy Scouts is fucking gay and stupid now.

Wouldn't you rather be in an Army-affiliated ROTC program?

The girl scouts appear to be pissed.

We’re in Year 2 right now, and I swear I keep waiting for Girl Scouts to get cool for my daughter. I thought they’d be camping more regularly and doing outdoorsy stuff. The emphasis on the cookies for a 1/4 of the year is annoying as fuck.

I guess there’s always Junior Rangers?

It's only a death knell if you just standby and don't push back against this bullshit. You have to reframe the issue. Now Girl Scouts is exclusive. It's girls only. Make that special.

Anybody can join the "scouts BSA". Only girls can join the Girl Scouts.

Just be better than the Boy Scouts, which honestly isn't that difficult now that the entire organization is fucking pozzed.

My humble suggestion is that you make a Girl Scouts version of the Eagle Scouts, and instead of focusing on the homemaking stuff, make it about adventures like the Boy Scouts used to be about. Just make it better. You could literally hire retired female soldiers and professional athletes to build a program. And those girls could probably run circles around what is left of the Eagle Scouts.

They do homemaking stuff in girl scouts, now? Grrrr.

My memories of girl scouts is all about outdoors stuff. We camped for a long weekend every spring and every fall, and for two fantastic weeks every summer, we went to a camp in Michigan.

Even on our two week camping trip in Michigan, we would take smaller packs and go for two day trips away from the actual campsite, to more 'remote' places.

Those were some damn fun times. Camp songs still worm their way into my head all the dang time.

Fun side story - our bus for going camping in the summer left from the mall that Jake and Elwood Blues destroyed in the movie. (Lincoln Mall.) They were in the process of tearing it down, anyway.
