Re: Strong belief that your team was cheated out of a playoff game win...
The Raiders just hijacked over a billion dollars from my city, which has an annual budget of around $250 million. That's how I could justify streaming, if I wanted to. Or perhaps suicide bombing the owner's box.
The ref made a bad call?
Sports is drama staged for our entertainment. The agony of defeat and the occasional injustice is just part of it. It's extremely foolish to treat it like international relations or something. Especially when all the people staging the drama are already robbing you blind.

I don't wanna let the cat out of the bag on what I'm working on, but after what happened to the falcons, you know it's gonna be big.

If you have any strong beliefs about a team/league you shouldn't pirate it at all so the products can continue to exist. This is based on profit, not athletic competition.

A billion dollars? For what? A stadium? They say a reasonable budget for a house is 4x your annual income so 1 billion is about right.LVH2 wrote:The Raiders just hijacked over a billion dollars from my city, which has an annual budget of around $250 million. It's all pretty shady. But we are giving them 750 as a gift. Plus exemption from taxes. Then after the rape was finalized the pols were like oh yeah we're also going to build them a bunch of roads and stuff forgot to mention that sorry.clubgop wrote:A billion dollars? For what? The tax exemptions dont count and they don't matter, cause the city gets a piece of every transaction that goes on there. Tix sales, merch, concessions, home and visiting player income. LV is the kinda place that could use a venue most days of the year if they build it right. I get your anger you don't seem much of a sports fan, maybe I am wrong, but be aware of poseurs like GCF, sure they'll complain at first but secretly that want it, they are fans, they'll look at season tickets. You may not want them but you'll never let them leave once you have them.LVH2 wrote:It's all pretty shady. But we are giving them 750 as a gift. Plus exemption from taxes. Not factoring in the tax breaks to the billion. The $750 million hand out and the roads will clear that. Never mind extra police work, jailing Raiders fans, etc. But if you were going to invent some hare brained story to justify this crap, it would have to include taxes. We get nothing from ticket sales. 0. Fairly sure we get 0 from merch. This is because the stadium is "publicly owned." Therefore, nothing is taxed. However, the public share of the revenue on the stadium they "own" is zero percent.clubgop wrote:The tax exemptions dont count and they don't matter, cause the city gets a piece of every transaction that goes on there. We have no state income tax, so not much there either. The whole justification really is, "someone will build a bar near the staduim and a few people will get jobs selling peanuts 8 times a year and some people will fly to Vegas to see games." That's supposed to generate over a billion dollars. Funny thing is, I know people who believe this. Though the majority of residents opposed the deal.
They might have 20 other events per year at the stadium, some of which would have been held elsewhere without the stadium. You can assemble wrong, but kind of plausible arguments for public subsidies of other sports because they have 41-82 home games. But the NFL is just outright theft.
I like sports, though actually attending an NFL game is horrifically boring. Football is a fun, but stupid sport. I love baseball and boxing. The Mets just dumped our AAA team, the 51s, which also irritates me. I don't get why they handle AAA teams this way. Make the parent team a nearby MLB team. Don't keep switching affiliations all the time. Then you have an extended regional fanbase for the team.
Anyway, we'll never let the Raiders leave because, Nevada is still about as corrupt as depicted in the movie Casino. They got here, without public support, via paying people off. When it's time for more hand outs, they'll do the same thing again.

Does Nevada have a sales tax? There a go. Also Nevada has to have some sort of venue and entertainment tax?LVH2 wrote:Not factoring in the tax breaks to the billion.
