And there was a time, quite recently, when you risked catching a baton for flying a Communists symbols. In fact, it was considered a badge of honor.C-Mag wrote:@Hanarchy

Eventually people recognized the absurdity of the over reaction. I assume they will again.
Fact is, the Antifa have been moping about their mom's basements for decades, complaining about student loan debt and misunderstanding most of what they read. Now that they think they have found some actual Fascists to be Anti, the are giddy with the opportunity to distract themselves from the abject failures of their lives.
And I won't even bother saying what I think about the Ethno-Nationalists.

Slate is a Lefty mag. These aren't attack articles, they're the real thing. People are no longer afraid to call themselves Communists. It's been building, I've seen it at my meetings.

We could always just let the metropolitan areas go to become their own city states and then encourage the marxists not living in those area to migrate and change citizenship.

That's already happening where I live: Portland, Oregon is Commie Central, so many Portlandiers are moving to Vancouver, Washington. Unfortunately, they're still loyal to Oregon. This whole thing can't end well.Speaker to Animals wrote:We could always just let the metropolitan areas go to become their own city states and then encourage the marxists not living in those area to migrate and change citizenship.

I agree with you and don't think there is a big difference between nationalism and patriotism. People (globalists) are trying to turn "nationalism" into a dirty word though. Here is the Frans Timmerman making some very clear statements about it. He says that nationalism makes people poor and weak. Patriotism is openness and compromise.ssu wrote:
And if nationalist means being a neonazi, forget it.
Btw, what do people here think is the difference between nationalism and patriotism? In my view patriotism is a better word. Nationalism, well, it isn't jingoism and that word (jingoism) isn't used much anymore.

Jingoism is the much more accurate word for some of the things that globalists want to tie to nationalism.

Oh, here in Europe they are already making patriotism a dirty word. Nationalism seems to be already that.Dand wrote:I agree with you and don't think there is a big difference between nationalism and patriotism. And yes, jingoism would be the correct term.
Yet the attack on nationalism/patriotism is very real. And dangerous. The real threat is that when the belief in their country fades away, so does one of the most important parts of the glue that creates social cohesion in a society. Because love for your country has been something that has been a shared emotion for both the rich and poor and for moderates on opposing sides of the political spectrum. That there is something the rich and the poor can both share is something important. Take away that and one important collective idea lost. Because you simply cannot replace the idea of the sovereign nation state with anything else that people would hold so dear. No kumbayah moment walking together holding hands towards the sunrise will happen. And in the meritocracy we live in, there aren't many other things that tie the poor and the rich together.
The structural dysfunctionality of communism and socialism is evident in that everywhere in the end, these ideologies that had started with World-hugging ideologies found the last refuge and needed assistance in traditional nationalism. Just look at China, Soviet Union with it's the Great Patriotic War (yep, even in the name they have it!) and Vietnam. And of course the super-jingoists in North Korea.
When something doesn't work, it doesn't. And the answer isn't to break up something that does.
And what about those who cherish their culture and customs and love their country? I've found out that many of them are ex-pats, people working abroad and being aliens in their environment. For many of them patriotism, their culture and their nation is far more important than those living back home.
