We should realize that identity politics are used by the extremes on both side. On the left it's crept a lot further towards the center though. When the right wingers are talking about American culture, White working class, OWG, or whatever it's also identity politics. You get to pick a victim group to belong to and bo ho together with. It's not one bit better than the LGBT/Hispanic/African American way of reasoning. If you adopt the same language and tactics you chose to play the game that the left dominates in. The only group that matters is the smallest. The group of one. The individual.

I can see the other side to this debate, though. One could argue that the narrative that we should avoid identity politics as something bad in itself is only ever applied to whites, while other groups use identity politics against us.

Indeed, if you speak out against the race hustling from the left, you get attacked by some of the same people who in this case laud the virtues of abandoning identity politics.

The anti-identity politics argument rings hollow to me. It's not that I am totally turned against the civic nationalism it ostensibly represents, but that I am pretty fucking skeptical at this point.

Civic nationalism seemed to only work when we were mostly of European descent. These are the end times of civic nationalism in America as far as I can see. This is how the Austro-Hungarian Empire fell apart.

This obviously isn't working. I don't need people from the very same demographics constantly signaling against white people and bitching about us to then tell me that I should adopt civic nationalism while they continue pushing their identity politics. Fuck that game. A lot of other whites may be brainwashed or gullible enough to keep falling for that, but I won't.

Get real with me and other whites and I think we all could find a realistic compromise.

I think the possibility should be considered that the thread title has it backwards. It should be: The aversion to identity politics is destroying white America.

Or, in other words, I will give up identity politics when everybody else does. Does that sound fair?
