I've been rolling through your back log, it's a shame that you and Dan never had a conversation. I really enjoy your podcast.

I agree. Dan ran out of ideas, not something I'm in short supply of, but I'm not the entertainer Dan is.

Or a return to the analysis that made the old stuff interesting. War on a Whim wasn't bad, but the whole election season after Gangreneous Finger seemed a bit off.heydaralon wrote:Dan still has history ideas. But hes got like 10 different politcal ideas. He needs some new shtick.

The problem is that, though Dan officially tries to stay out of the culture war, he most certainly picked a side. It affects his political opinions even if he won't admit it to himself. His choice in the culture war alienates most of his original audience, though he has a new audience of beta progressives as you can see on his subreddit.
People need to stop pretending like this culture war isn't the biggest game in town, or that they don't take a side. Most people actually do take a side and the culture war is THE political confrontation of the first half of this century. It's raging across the western world right now. You can't hide from this.

Member when Dan would have taken an unambiguous stand against violence as a means to a political end? I member.

The American Left Is Talking Itself Into Violence
They—and all of us, really—are learning to behave this way on social media. Just as the violence on campus gradually seeps out into the streets and town halls, so too does our violent and intolerant rhetoric online eventually manifest in the real world. That so much of it is now coming from the political left is not an accident.
With every Facebook post and Tweet, every demonstration and boycott, they have talked themselves into it. It’s going to be difficult, maybe even impossible, to talk them out of it.

This forum is a good example of the difference between Progressives & Liberals. A Progressive forum is highly moderated so no "hate" gets in, yet they are immersed in concentrated but unexpressed hate due to the very top-down moderation, whereas this UNMODERATED forum just lets words evaporate if no one agrees with them, and often causes a writer's thoughts to moderate to keep their words from evaporating.Fife wrote: The American Left Is Talking Itself Into ViolenceThey—and all of us, really—are learning to behave this way on social media. I appreciated your newly minted(?) term "perceptual camouflage" as it succinctly encapsulates the underlying motives that were the subject of your podcast. Great stuff. These leaders don't get followers because they fooled them, anything but, the followers were simply waiting for a leader that empowered them by giving they perceptual camouflage.

Dan has his Left leaning Dogma that he can't break out of, his biggest problem. His ideas are very relevant right now, but he doesn't have the mental agility to get past his emotional reaction to Trump. This put's Dan in a box of his own making, and it's a small box.heydaralon wrote:Dan still has history ideas. But hes got like 10 different politcal ideas. He needs some new shtick.
