The people who believed the videos were edited to make PP look bad were mainly idiots who never bothered to look at the footage in the first place. I think Step 3 is where it falls apart--I'm not sure it works that way anymore.

Even though there was never any evidence that the recording was faked there were constant headlines that called it "debunked Planned Parenthood footage" and a lot of people now believe it was a hoax and that PP wasn't selling parts of aborted fetuses.

I never did manage to grasp why anyone actually cared about this, other than 'shock value' that fetuses are, in fact, aborted.

Well, you're an edgy cynic. There are ethical concerns and strong feelings about any kind of sale of human bodies.

I mean, I get that people would be squeamish about it, but what the hell did they think was happening? Who cares if the remains are sold and used for research, rather than tossed in a dump or incinerator?

The entire issue seems to revolve around people 'suddenly realizing' that these are dead babies. It's an emotional push-button issue for Pro-Lifers, and nothing more. There's noting unethical about using the remains for science instead of wasting them. If anything, it's more ethical.

I can agree with that, sure. But as we are so frequently reminded, biomedical research is a "marketplace".

More importantly, if the federal government were 100% funding research on dead fetuses, the white house would be aflame by noon. Therefore, no sense in throwing it away - make a buck I guess, whatever.
