DC isn't, and has never been, a city state controlling all of the territory of the US centrally. There's a difference between city state, and state.

Do not think the Inca classify as a "state"? And not the Aztecs? Weren't the Aztecs more centralized than the Mayas before them?

The Maya were city states like Greece. Inca and Aztecs I don't know. We were talking Norte Chico.

More centralized, sure. The Maya were a people, not a state, like the ancient Greeks in a way. The Inca had a state, but they couldn't be too authoritative with the mountain/valley terrain they inhabited. The Aztecs were basically a city-state whose tributary lands were enormous. The Aztecs (for some reason, a lot of current scholars are trying to phase in only calling them the Mexica) congregated in Tenochtitlan and a few other cities and ruled other true native peoples. The Aztecs, after all, were not from that area. They migrated in from the North only shortly before the Europeans arrived.
