They did the same thing in Tajikistan, Georgia & Syria and it worked. They don't have to topple the government, they just have to intimidate it. How long that may be is up for postulation?
Outstanding point.

If you can intellectually and emotionally pull yourself away and look at results.

Russia has been the most successful government in defeating insurgencies.
It's really fucking arrogant and stupid to declare victory by Western standards. Other people fight differently, and are not restrained by 21st C. feminist sensibilities that cities are not military targets.

80 years ago when the West was run by men, we had no trouble seeing cities as legitimate military targets. And it's effective.

Break up the global economy.
they broke up their involvement in that

but that isn't to their benefit

all they have done is shoot themselves in the foot
Really? Think about it... the countries no longer working together are now fighting for the same resources.
they are hurt by that more than any other country they are seeking to hurt by doing so

their military has been exposed

they are economically and diplomatically isolated

they have a bunch of resources they are dependent on exporting that they can't sell

how do they benefit?

they lost in Afghanistan, when they were far more formidable

why can't they lose in a larger and more populous country

that is putting up an even fiercer resistance against a far weaker opponent than the Soviets?

this ain't Georgia, Tajikistan or Syria

looks a lot more like Afghanistan on steroids

the Ukrainians already killed many more Russians the Afghans ever did, and the war just started

pull your heads out of your asses

they are getting fucked up

in so many different ways

The EU is going to pay Russia in Rubbles for their oil... Russia won.

how is that a win?

the EU wants to dump their worthless Rubles

obvious sign of weakness is obvious

the Russians are selling far less oil

particularly in Europe

meanwhile Europe is making a beeline to diversifying away from Russian energy

that's called a loss

also the pipelines they move their oil through to Europe

move through Ukraine

so the Ukrainians can shut that off

if they feel like it

this is not what winning looks like

Russia's position on the world stage

is much weaker than it was in January

and that trend is only accelerating

We lost in Afghanistan, the British Empire lost in Afghanistan, so that's not much of benchmark.

Russia can lose in Ukraine. My point is, don't you think the declarations of Russia being defeated are as pre-mature as those that said Russia would never take Mariupol a month ago ?

Why should I believe Russia is defeated, when the predictions on Mariupol, an active Ukraine insurgency, and the conquests of the Ghost of Kiev have proven to be wrong.

because the Russians are not performing anywhere near well enough to take Ukraine

let alone hold it

Mariupol Schmariupol

the Russians have taken nothing of significance

and have paid a steep price for it

Yet, the EU and the UN are willing to accept Russia's oil, and demands. Seems to counter your argument.

I can only use the intellectual and deductive skills that I have, which say Russia, at least Putin's Russia, is the winner in almost every way. I don't want to try and convince anyone who has an opinion based on different interpretations: I only wonder why?

Frankly, I don't have a dog in this fight: it's simply the natural TDS->Covidian->Ukrainiot timeline with another -> waiting in the wings.
