Always a little backwards, powerful when run by tyrants, I can only assume the Russian people like it that way.
Russia lacks Western Enlightenment values & the Anglo Saxon rule of law with underpins a civil society

same as it ever was

in terms of finance, I would expect a secular bear market which lasts for years

similar to the 1968 to 1982 secular bear market, when the stock market lost 75% of its value

I've got an article to post on Putin and faith.
It makes the case that he sees himself as a Crusader to save traditional Christianity.

The world may see Putin as a monster, but he may see himself as a Crusader.

This seems to confirm the imagery put out by Russia that they destroyed the barracks housing Western Mercenaries.

The longer Ukraine holds out, the worse it looks for Putin after decisively winning the information war.
Putin's political objective was to get Ukraine to rejoin Russia

he has now made that a doomed prospect, he's turned Ukraine into Afghanistan on his doorstep

so Putin has already lost the war, by his own stated objectives

the purpose of war being to impose a political end state

That's how we see it, not necessarily Putin. But it does seem like a logical goal.

Putin has stated it's a special operation for the De-Nazification of Ukraine. And right now, looks like his has the Ukrainian Nazis trapped in Mariapol

After repeatedly saying, "we're not going to invade," then invading: I certainly don't trust Putin at his word. "De-Nazification"? Please. It seems more likely he did think the majority of Ukrainians wanted to rejoin Russia. From his pov, the West must look like a creepshow any sane person would want to get away from.

so says the Russia Troll Useful Idiots

it is impossible for Russia to occupy Ukraine, just demographically they don't have the troops to do it

Russia will not be able to impose a puppet government

Russia will inevitably be driven out by insurgency, Ukraine will become the principle NATO proxy now

so this is a catastrophic military failure for Russia, at all levels, tactical, operational & strategic

 Yes, Putin broke his word.
I've studied Russia a little, and all I know is we can't really think like them. These people had Ivan the Terrible retired and they begged him to come back.

We certainly do look like a creep show.
