Part of being a soldier is to know your limitations

If you're not likely to help, but rather simply become a casualty, just stay out of the way

I'm a heavy smoker over fifty, I know my limitations, this is not a gunfight, it could kill me in an afternoon
It totally could then again, you might be totally asymptomatic, smoker or not.
You either respect my opinion or you don't

I'm down in my bunker and I am not letting my wife out into the breach with this bug right now,

DEFCON 1 with cause
I'm just saying, being over 50 heavy smoker does not carry a mortality rate higher than 10%, and that is with a lot of cases not even being known about, so the lethality is definitely lower than that, how much lower, I don't know. At least for right now. It makes sense to be cautious given your risk factors, but the numbers are the numbers and current numbers make it out to be worse than it is.

Fair enough, just letting you know that statistically, even using stats that inflate the mortality rate and even using the worst looking stats in Italy, it's not that lethal, even to the high risk folks. That doesn't mean precautions aren't necessary, it just means you aren't doomed if you get it, and that goes more than double for your wife.

That might change in the future, but as of right now, as far as I can tell, that hasn't changed. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, since the fog of war clouds my vision just as it does everyone elses, but I'm just saying.

When you first get shelled, you don't realize how dangerous it is, the troops all stop and stare

Then at some point, somebody gets decapitated by a piece of shrapnel, at what you thought was safe distance

After that, nobody stops to stare, as soon as you hear the incoming, you drop like a stone without looking

Training is taking over

Let the training take over, but based on the current stats, the shrapnel hitting you and causing serious injury is very low, and even lower for your wife, that doesn't mean come out of your foxhole and dance, but it does mean that you aren't doomed if you get hit so use that knowledge to help you stay loose and implement your training.

I'm not a Doomsday Prepper, that's an oxymoron

Doom is doom, there is no preparation for it other than the salvation of the Lord

That doesn't mean you just wander into a minefield where you don't know where nor how many mines

It might not be a minefield, like I say this could just be a seasonal flu mortality rate with a virus that is far more infectious, and I don't hear you calling the seasonal flu a minefield.

It could be a minefield though, or it could mutate into a minefield, therefore caution is warranted, but I have no proof of a minefield yet, even in Italy.
