Lenin apparently had close to three billion dollars in swiss bank accounts when he died. Stalin died one of the richest men in the world as well.
Just before he died, Lenin warned the Bolsheviks of Stalin's intentions, but since those intentions were to impose the collectivization which Lenin did not have the courage of convictions for, sort of pokes a hole in the whole "Lenin was a hardcore communist" theory.

Lenin's primary motivation was Anti-Czarist vengeance for his brother, Peace, Bread & Land merely a rubric.
Lenin promoted Stalin to the most powerful positions in the USSR. He talked shit about Stalin in his will, but he also dissed Trotsky and everyone else. What he most likely wanted was for these guys to rule as a comittee. He certainly didn't want them to stop being Communists.

Smitty, I like you. More than almost everyone on here (except Brewster who has the best takes on Climate Change). But if you keep this up I'm going to label you as Smitty Warren Sanders. My Grandfather fought in World War 2. He nearly died more than once. If he saw the commie apologist way you are trying to steer this forum he'd be rolling in his grave right now.
Lenin ultimately turned out to be like Bernie Sanders

Lenin talked a big game, but in the end, he stuck with capitalism to prop the Soviet Union up.

So did every commie country. The USSR took out tens of billions in loans from the US, the UK, and France. Lenin was aided before he took power from Ludendorff and numerous philanthropists on both sides of the Atlantic. North Korea survives today because of their black market capitalist system. Ethiopia, Angola, Cuba, and Somalia got a shitload of aid from the USSR which got its aid from the US. China today is only doing so well from capitalism and US trade.

What is your point?

Communism always needs capitalism in the real world, because Communism is not sustainable. There is no commie regime that has ever existed that has been able to survive even short term without capitalism. That doesn't mean that Lenin, Stalin, and their ilk were not dyed in the wool communists. They were. They believed all that bullshit. They just saw westerners who supported them as useful idiots. They were right.

That Lenin was not actually, as you say, "a hardcore communist"

He was more of a dabbler, who wanted revenge against the Romanov's for killing his brother.

The Bolsheviks wanted to liquidate the Jews as much the Czar, nobody liked the Jews, certainly not the Soviets

The Soviet euphemism for Jews was "Rootless Cosmopolitans; individuals devoid of nation or tribe"

Who in the 20th Century Qualified as a Communist then?

If we are looking at credentials or "wokeness," again, no one would qualify. Kim Il Sung's dad was a Christian Missionary. Mao grew up upper Middle Class. Stalin went to seminary school. Pol Pot was educated in Paris which would make him a target for liquidation by his own standards. No communist would be a communist by your standards. Its like Pareto said, you only eliminate one ruling class for another. That has always been true historically. There is no leader in human history would qualify for any ideological cause based on your standards.

One thing I learned recently was that when Stalin liquidated nearly every war time officer it was because they were actually incompetent. They were in that position because they were early party members during the revolution. The leaders he replaced them with had come up through modern military schooling. I've always heard this decision to be attributed to his paranoia and insecurity but it was likely more because the officers themselves were shit.
Nah he killed a bunch of good generals. Even Voroshilov who was one of the biggest kiss asses in the army told him after the Leningrad siege that he brought the German invasion on himself by eliminating the best generals. Voroshilov was completely talentless and got his position strictly out of loyalty. Stalin knew he fucked up when the invasion started. He fucked up so bad that he went on a bender for a few days and thought the dudes who came to ask for his orders were there to purge/execute him. They should have.
Yeah but I follow revisionist history you follow mainstream history. For all you know everything you've heard is a lie. Generals calling other generals shit is normal. Check out the first five minutes of this podcast.

If you follow "revisionist" history and the conclusions you draw from WW2 is that Hitler and Stalin were good, then maybe examine your worldview.

Lets say the Holocaust never happened, period. Even taking that into account, Hitler left his entire Volk to be destroyed, raped, and bombed by the Russians in a pointless war. Stalin was only better in the sense that he happened to win, but he was equally horrible. Whether you take my mainstream view that he caught got off guard by Hitler and that led to millions of his own people horribly dying, or you take the Smitty view that he was preparing to invade Germany and got caught off guard, he still created a situation where millions of his soldiers and civilians were shot or starved to death by the invading Reich for no reason.

Both belief systems are Jonestown.

As an aside, I don't know of any Historians who just base their views off of Generals accounts. If anything, Generals are usually viewed with disdain. This is true with any war.

"Qualified"? Technically, no one, because it was never achieved.

Communism is aspirational, it's an end state, a Post Scarcity Utopia

Socialism is the path by which this shall be achieved, come the World Socialist Revolution.

There were plenty of Socialists, some of them were Bolsheviks, but Communism was never at hand.

Stalin put a stop to it, when he put down the World Socialist Revolution in favor of Socialism In One Country.
