One time he was dating this rugby chick, she played girls rugby.

She was mighty cute, she was hot, but she was a tomboy. She used to like play fight with the boys.

One night Rob had enough of her shit,

so he picked her up and threw her out the second floor window of the barracks

There was big snowbank below, so she was in no real danger.

She didn't know that tho, she was screaming like she was gonna die.

Rob loved Wolverine from Marvel comics.

He has a beautiful perfect tattoo of Wolverine on his arm. I think it's an Art Adams Wolverine.

He was built like Wolverine tho, he wasn't tall, he was a pit bull, and he had the body of a comic book superhero.

Wasn't a great runner tho, he hated cardio, he just wanted to lift.

He could kill a man with his bare hands, easily, in street fights he tore people apart, like a pit bull.
You know they say "write what you know". Do a comic book of "The Adventures of Smitty & Rob". If half the shit you say is true, it could be pretty entertaining.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND

What do you mean? I know space. My sci fi is not completely hard sci--fi, but is generally plausible.

My favorite sci fi author is Reynolds, space opera, but with hard sci fi plausibilty.

See, I can't watch those Japanese cartoons for the most part

Because for the most part it's just talking, and it's babble, it doesn't engage me.

But I always thought the Gundam, or something like that, was plausible.

That would be the right design for space war, because it's basically a giant astronaut, which can fly like a ship.

The other thing is, like I say, most sci fi treats space like the medium is air, or water.

Air warfare in space, naval warfare in space.

But space is not like that, you're not flying, you're not sailing. You're falling, in a vacuum.

And for naval warfare, there is no horizon. You can't have naval warfare without a horizon to hide behind.

So where is the ocean of space? Where can you hide in order to have air/naval/commando tactics in space?

In this solar system, there are two places, the Asteroid Belt and the Rings of Saturn

Asteroid Sea. The Sea ring shaped around the gravity well, the debris provides cover as proxy for an horizon.

Space tactics. I'm a tactician by trade, so I know my shit.

The Asteroid Belt is like the ocean.

The asteroids are not actually that close together, they're like tiny planets.

So that is where you would have your naval space war.

The Rings of Saturn is flat, but the debris is thick,

so that is where you are going to have your air/commando space war,

See, the Rings of Saturn are only about a kilometer thick

But linearly around the ring, it's 250,000 miles in diameter.

So in order to contest the Sauturnian system, you are fighting for the control of the Rings of Saturn

Because that is the vector of attack,

You can enter the ring covertly, sneak around the horizon, then pop out of the rings to attack

So the other guy has to have patrols in the rings to secure those approaches.

So when you get into that as the battlespace, something like a Gundam makes sense.

Giant astronaut, scaled to "space walk" in the rings.

So it's a combination fighter plane, and giant soldier

That makes sense

Once you get into the rings, it's a sea of ice and rock and dust

So you can't see shit.

That's how you get to close combat in space.

When you're in open space, you need a ship to get around.

Once you go in the rings, you can't use speed, you have to creep around

So you're the giant soldier for close quarters battle.

The rings are so thick with debris, it's like the jungle, you can't detect anything until it is point blank.

Clem Rogers, Callsign Cock One, passed the time playing chess with the Apollo Exoship's onboard A.I. co-pilot, Bitchin' Betty. Betty wasn't a real girl. She didn't smell like a girl. You couldn't touch her. She wouldn't fuck you. The A.I. were bred to be warfighters at Lawrence Livermore labs, they might be flirty, but they weren't porn stars.

Couldn't beat her at chess neither. Programmed to be a super soldier, she saw your moves coming before you did. Kept her chatting though. Company is company, and company is a premium on a one man crew ship. She was fun to tease, she was easy on the eyes, not a girlfriend, but pretty much the best Waifu ever made, DOD spared no expense. One of these A.I. cost as much as an aircraft carrier back on earth. The high ground of space was for all the marbles, aircraft carriers weren't much use.

There was no point in doing anything else. Couldn't see shit. On this patrol, Cock one and the detachment were in a ring the troops called 'Dusty Roads'. This ring was full of dust. Couldn't detect anything at stand off range. The only thing that told you someone was on top of you, was by a network of remote sensors which the manufacturer of course called Tripwire. So they played chess and passed the time waiting for someone to trip the wire.

"Det One, Cock One, radio check, sound off"

"Snake Eater, copies, all clear"

"Casey Jones, copy, all clear"

"Bocks Car, clear"

"Cock One, roger that, smoke em' if you got em', out"

What's our stance on shields? I like them personally. Are they possible going forward I wonder though
