Investing in a mining company is apples and oranges as to storing wealth in metals. If Buffet put customer money in hard gold they would want his head on a pike. That's not what gold is for. And I fear the crypto kids are going to find out that's not what BTC is for either.

If one wants to invest, put money in capital that produces things people want and can use. If you want to have some wealth in low risk storage for when you might need it, save USD (hahahaha) or buy some gold. Or BTC, if you fancy it.

I will speak as Mr. Wysdom:

Money is only a means to achieve the things you want to do. You can do those things now with the extra money you have or put off enjoyment for some future date and do those things then, but not only is that predicting the future, why? Especially with the oncoming volatility trainwreck. Whatever it is you are building now: a garden, guns, bowling, microfarm, new house, remodeling; do it now with any money you may think you want to "invest."

I can't even give advice not to borrow money because the coming volatility may make that a moot obligation.

Spending all of your money is a bad idea.

And even Buffet may have come around to agreeing he was wrong. Still, something to think over when trying to preserve or grow wealth.

Ideally, I'd like to sink my extra cash into a second house. Buuuuuuuuuut that takes more extra cash then I've got. Still, I'd rather sit on two houses than have stocks or crypto - simply because it'll definitely be worth something no matter what the dollar or markets do.
"Stocks are through the floor" - "Cool, I still got 2 houses"
"Crypto has collapsed" - "Cool, I still got 2 houses"
"The dollar is worthless" - - "Cool, I still got 2 houses"

Just seems like an easy way to weather a lot of shit.

Why would gold mining stocks be any safer or productive than gold? You’re, what, gambling they find more gold than usual or can extract better than usual?

Well ... I'd have to defer to Warren Buffet on that one - it was his investment. Yes, I think the gamble is that the gold miners will either locate more gold, or extract what gold they have more efficiently. Buffet must have reasons to think this is likely, since he's not in the business of buying lemon stocks and taking a drubbing.
But I have no idea why he'd think gold miners are going to find more, or do better.
/shrug

PS - Maybe the companies he's backing operate under governments that recently made it easier or less expensive to mine. I guess that's possible too.
