I actually traded in my 18-55 for a 50mm 1.8, so not as good at wideangle landscape, I'm more of the upclose, lots of bokeh kind of amateur photographer.

Funny enough I just had someone message me on social media asking me if I wanted to do Family and/or pet photography. I'm like argh, means I have to do more customer service, but you know, got tuesdays and thursdays now so I guess I would be self-employed those days.

I'm actually in the process of doing exactly that. A 50mm 1.8 lens is a great lens for portraits, sure with my DX camera it's cropped so that's it's basically 75mm but that still works well for portraits in general.

Taking pictures of people, it's a learning process I'd say. I have the customer service experience, but as towards posing them? Well I don't know a whole lot about that. As towards other markets, I'm actually building a body of work around the miniature market right now, being that in the greater Seattle area there are a fair amount of nerds, and even if I'm just taking hi-def photos of people's miniatures for insurance purposes, it's still money.

Here's something that took me about 30 min to put together before work, for a friend the other day.



With my 1.8 though, I'm going to be able to do a lot better than the above image. I probably need to hop over to goodwill to gerry rig some lighting as well.
