There’s a lot of value in both approaches. I’ve gotten a new appreciation for modern life through his podcast. I don’t bemoan little problems, because I know how much worse it could be.

well I don't need a rich kid from Hollywood to give me that perspective

but in actual fact, you don't live in the modern world anymore, that ended in 1989

you live in the postmodern world now

and it is as existentially dangerous as the 1930's right before the outbreak of the Second World War

to find anything as crazy as what we are living through now, you have to go back Weimar and the Nazis

the masses are chanting "Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil!" once again

the modern world collapsed in 1919

postmodernism was born in the 1920's

the Bolsheviks were postmodern, the Nazis were postmodern

the Second World War was the war to save the modern world, as Pax Americana

the Cold War was a frozen conflict, defending the modern world for forty years on the Trace

but when the Iron & Bamboo Curtains fell in 1989, the postmodern world came rushing back overnight

there was brief Goldilocks zone, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to 9-11

but 9-11 was the watershed, the flood, and the postmodernists have been taking over ever since

then 2008 accelerated things, and now we are in uncharted waters, America itself is starting to implode

there are no other leaders of the free world, if America falls, it will be a dark age

Bill was in the Tet Offensive, so that's his view of Vietnam

my Canadian uncle served in 65', at the Ia Drang, with the First Team

they had a different view of it, like my uncle blamed the college professors for undermining the war effort

not every Vietnam vet is VVAW, in fact the vast majority of them are not, but the media ignores those vets

Bill is like a PBS Vietnam Vet, working for the left wing media: VVAW

I wouldn’t know, but he speaks well, and his experience does not seem uncommon.

he's the left wing media anointed "War Poet of Vietnam"

one of a dozen or so left wing VVAW vets who the media truck out over and over

most vets get ignored, the media has their pet Vietnam Vets who are reliable to recite the media's narrative

he's like a professional "Vietnam Vet" who works for PBS

the media only pays attention to the hand picked left wing VVAW vets, but they are the exception not the rule

it's like using Howard Zinn as the model of a WWII vet, and it has made a false impression of Vietnam veterans

so I'm not actually a fan of Erhart, because I think he's a grifter, professional left wing propagandist

Is there an Ernst Jünger of the Vietnam War?

David Hackworth may be the closest

thing is for me, the only Vietnam veteran I ever had a chance to get close to, was my uncle

but my uncle is Canadian, old school Canadian, from a very British Canada

and he was 1st Cavalry Division, which had a certain attitude, they didn't think like grunts

so he didn't lament his tour in Vietnam, he said he loved it

he said flying helicopters is addictive, flying helicopters into danger is even more addictive

they even flew right into North Vietnam at the DMZ, looking for trouble, provoking the NVA

one commander was even killed while he was deer hunting from a helicopter

when they flew back to An Khe aka Camp Radcliff, they went to the Warrant Officers club at night

it was air conditioned, they had cold beer in the fridge, steaks on the grill

helicopter pilots didn't march in the jungle

helicopter pilots didn't pull guard duty

helicopter pilots never dug latrines

helicopter pilots had a god's eye view of it

he said he was never afraid in the helicopter, because he was too busy flying the helicopter
