Well about 10,000 of them reportedly fled to South America, but I would call it running for their lives and then hiding more than "regrouping".Haumana wrote:Ok. Cool. There seemed to be a lot of well-built structures down there for a group of people who were running for their lives. Some of them appeared to be a part of a preplanned escape plan. Dunno, really.Smitty-48 wrote:

Well, if they didn't keep their heads down, Stalin & Co was going to come find them, they may have had escape plans worked out, but I think those plans involved getting as far away from the reach of the Soviets as they possibly could, in some of the few countries that might harbour them if they didn't attract attention to themselves.Haumana wrote:Cool. Not too much later, they were hiding from the Israelis as well, if the KGB didn't get them, the Mossad would.

Yeah, the more I dig into this the more I am inclined to think it is all bullshit as well. Those Israelis hold a lethal grudge.Smitty-48 wrote: Well, if they didn't keep their heads down, Stalin & Co was going to come find them, they may have had escape plans worked out, but I think those plans involved getting as far away from the reach of the Soviets as they possible could, in some of the few countries that might harbour them is they didn't attract attention to themselves. Well I just don't think they were in any position to "regroup", they were fugitives, they had no allies left, lots of people were after them, they didn't have an army, and the South Americans weren't going to fight for them, I would say that they were running, in fear of reprisal, not to dig in and call the fight to them from a new position. If they had called attention to themselves, they would have got snatched and/or whacked for it, it's not like Argentina was willing to throw itself in anybody's path for them, they were totally expendable to their "hosts".
Argentina wasn't going to actively extradict them maybe, but we saw what happened when the Mossad came calling, Mossad didn't ask permission to throw anybody in the trunk and them sail them back to Tel Aviv for trial, so fail to keep a very low profile at your own peril, Fritz.
Can't be much of a regroup if the Jews can reach out and grab Eichmann, that's a pretty high ranking Nazi right thur, if they can't protect Eichmann, they can't protect anybody.

Naa, They weren't going to get armed protection, per se. But the presentation included Franco and Peron as quiet allies, if not full on sympathizers, willing to harbor them. Also, there were/are some interesting compounds that were built by someone out in the secluded Argentian jungles. But then I was reading up on how these could have been 17th century monasteries. Hell if I know, I was hoping you did.Smitty-48 wrote: Well I just don't think they were in any position to "regroup", they were fugitives, they had no allies left, lots of people were after them, they didn't have an army, and the South Americans weren't going to fight for them, I would say that they were running, in fear of reprisal, not to dig in and call the fight to them from a new position. Mossad recognizes no borders when in hot pursuit. But there were a few of those people that were abducted from Argentina and drug back to Israel for hanging.

If you're just talking run o' the mill Nazis, like low ranking SS? They didn't even flee, they just hid in plain sight, right in Germany, I've met them, living in West Germany back in the 80's, I had a guy show me his blood tat, he was proud to be Waffen-SS, 12th Panzer, Hitlerjugend, he wanted to talk to us because we were Canadians, because that's who he fought in the war, he had surrendered to the US Army in Austria, and after they let him go, he just went home. I asked if he was scared of being caught, he said "By who? Nobody bothers us, we're the Waffen-SS".
There were actually a lot of Nazis in Germany, right in plain sight, they weren't scared of the government, it was more like the government was scared of them. He was a scary looking dude, send a little shiver up the spine when he look at you with those crazy eyes, still had the fire in the eyes, he was a true believer, and even though he was sixty something, he was only old from the neck up, from the neck down, he looked fighting fit.
Kinda sounded like nukedog tbh, was rattling off the same sort of conspiracy theories.

Naa, not run o' the mill. The nazi hierarchy reassembling in South America is what I was curious about. Your experience is why I directed these questions towards you. Smitty has seen some shit and knows about more shit.Smitty-48 wrote:If you're just talking run o' the mill Nazis, like low ranking SS? You are the Hash Pipe's second most interesting man after Hash himself, of course. After all, you never smoked some opium and had magic mushroom cheesy garlic bread because of a whim. or have you?

Meh, as far as South American Nazis go, really, if they were protected, they were protected by the CIA, like Klaus Barbie in Bolivia, the prime mover in terms of a Nazi regroup, was the American intelligence agencies; Operation Paperclip.
As far as hard drugs go, no, that's not my thing, I'm pretty boring when it comes to drug abuse; tobacco, alcohol, and weed, is all I've done.
I've seen some shit, no doubt, but when the hard drugs came out, I just took a pass, thanks, I worked for Her Majesty, can't be all strung out on opiates and hallucinogens, when you serve in the Thin Red Line.

Interestingly, even if West Germany did have it's de-nazification policies and somewhat successfull re-molding of it's armed forces to citizen soldiers, East Germany had no qualms with putting former nazi's in high positions. I think even SS men could serve in the East German military.Smitty-48 wrote:If you're just talking run o' the mill Nazis, like low ranking SS? Although it has to be said, that naturally many of the first Bundeswehr leaders were former Wehrmacht/Luftwaffe/Kriegsmarine soldiers. The first inspector general of the Bundeswehr and later the Chairman of NATO Military committee, Adolf Heusinger, had served in the OKH and actually stood next to Hitler when the bomb exploded during the 20th July plot.
