If you ever started playing Civilization we'd never see you again.

Read a paper years ago on cavalry in the civil war and the lesson learned by European observers. Interesting stuff.

Actually, last Place for cavalry to be used was (is) in Africa. When you don't have roads, sometimes a horse might be handy, especially in the rainy season, when vehicles get stuck in mud.

Splitting hairs here but,
cavalry or mounted infantry SSU?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Technically, Mounted Rifles, or Carabiniers, is a type of Cavalry; that's called a Dragoon.

So you don't technically need to fight from the saddle to be a type of cavalry?
Were mounted longbow archers cavalry in that case?

Indeed, cavalry need not fight from the saddle at all times, and indeed, horse archers are cavalry, the Mongols being the most infamous therein.

Saddle, wheeled vehicle, tracked vehicle, skids, or on foot. It has more to do with the era you're talking about and what the soldier is going.
