Anybody ever had some fun with a T/C Contender?

My dad had one back in the 70s/80s with several barrels; and I hand loaded rounds for every barrel we had. Now that was fun.

I have an uncle that was really into long range pistol shooting and he shot Thompsons. They are a very good pistol within the limitations of the platform. I always found them unwieldy to shoot, just not my thing. I actually like their rifle configuration better than the pistol.

Why did the US use Thompson sub-machine guns for WW2? I was under the impression that they were expensive guns to make and somewhat difficult to clean and maintain. I thought the United States strategy for production in WW2 was to mass produce many simpler weapons as opposed to a smaller amount of higher tech stuff. For instance, the US produced 50,000 shermans for the conflict, even though they didn't have the same large barrel size and firepower as the Soviet and German tanks. But our country created many times more tanks than Germany and Russia did for the conflict. Kind of like that Lenin quote: "Quantity is a quality all its own."

I like how the clip from the Garand flies out when you get through the mag. At least that what appears to be happening when they used it on Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. My grandfather brought back a German Mauser from ww2 when the war ended. My uncle fired it a couple of times. I don't know how gun experts feel like Mausers and Garands stack up.

Yeah. Never shot one but that's probably the most annoying part other than the fact it's probably forty pounds heavy. 30-06 is a great fucking round though. I used to have an r800 in 30-06. Fucking tac driver.

Just watch your thumb, soon as that clip is in, the action will close the breach, so make sure to support the cocking lever when loading with an en-bloc clip, otherwise you'll get bit.

They are only like a cool twelve hundo in fine, outdated to hell and back. I'll never buy one but I think they are cool nostalgia.
