There is a lot of symbolism involved in lending us the tapestry. It highlights our common roots. It was an Anglo-Norman-French language which started to replace Latin in use for commerce and law and it wasn't until 1362 that Edward III made it law that English only was to be spoken in court. The lawyers went on using French until the 15th/16th century. First king to use English as his first language was probably not till Henry IV who was King from 1399-1413 nearly 350 years after Hastings.
Macron is coming across well in his foriegn dealings, he has got the first state visit in Trump's presidency without being seen as a suck up at home like May was after holding Trump's hand.
